I wish Vick all the blessings he can get! Just let me know if he will place my bet on the super bowl winner before the winning takes place ! May be he could throw the game for some of us gaming people? Let him play football! I could care less if he does ! I have no ill feelings towards him! Would even call him my BROTHR for some front row tickets to see the Eagles win that superbowl!!

MONEY   is the root of all EVIL!!!!!

He served his time, people.  Why not forgive?  I know this will get me in hot water around here (many of you think the USA is non-racist), but I doubt a white QB of Vick's stature would have spent ANY time in jail for animal fighting.

And we do not kill other animals because we have to eat them.  We kill other animals because their grizzly, fatty bodies are tasty to most of us.  No one has to kill and eat animals.  In fact, the ecosystem would be much healthier without vast meat production.

We treat animal farmed pigs and cows and chickens so much worse than Vick treated his dogs.  It seems the Christian thing to do to forgive Michael Vick, especially as most of us are culpable in comparable crimes against innocent, sentient beings.

And for the record, I don't even yell at my dogs, much less hit them or choke them -- or whatever else you may think.  I am not defending animal fighting or cruelty of any kind.

Again, Vick spent 18m in jail and has already lost many millions -- and endorsements will be few and far between now (and I think this is how it should be).  But let the guy do what he is good at and which defines his whole life, pretty much.

I just felt the need to clarify my take on the second chance aspect. A few months ago, the Eagles' management fired a part-time game day employee and lifetime fan for posting a negative comment on his Facebook page about the release of safety Brian Dawkins. An effort was made by the media and fans to have the man reinstated. He had removed the post within hours of posting it in an effort to make peace but to no avail. My question is why does Vick deserve a second chance but this man does not?

Lotsa Convicts on Eagles team not just him.  Im sure some of the other NFL teams have criminals also, just look at Plaxico Buress of Giants bringing that loaded gun into a NY nightclub and shooting himself.

Dot, you are right. He deserves forgiveness just as much as Mike. Thats why if we have no respect of persons, those people will have a better chance at redemption than for us as the public trashing them. We ALL make or have made mistakes. I have! Jesus has forgiven me as well as some, and I mean some, of my accusers have. (That might be to many). The point being, lets not have a respect of person or a particular people. But, lets also not encourage wrong. Sin deserves chestisment. But after time or punishment served, why not forgive as Christ forgives us?  Thanks!

YR writes: MONEY is the root of all EVIL!!!!!

Nope.  If you're trying to quote the Bible, the Bible says "Love of money is the root of all evil."  There is a difference.

Those on here wanting Michael Vick to work again, but only if he doesn't make much money, will probably choose to use that misquote along with you.

mindhunt, your post about your FL swamp cracker friend was great at explaining where these people are coming from.  Yes, I'm sure many people, including Vick, were brought up just that way.  That stuff was "normal" to them.  However, Vick (and everyone else still fighting dogs in 2009) knows perfectly well that what he was doing was illegal and he did it anyway.  He deserved the jail time.

MVF -- ?????   Why all the race talk?   I believe if it was done by a white QB, he would be put UNDER the jail !   Look at all the Bad behavior of some of the Black athletes and they have been allowed to get by with it.   MVF you need to see things for how they REALLY ARE.   A perfect example of bad behavior is Dennis Rodman........    Pete Rose's life was RUINED because he gambled on a game.    There are numerous examples -- but to tell you the truth, I don't want to be bothered looking for them.

Regarding meat eating - well I'm no expert on this, and I do eat meat.   A friend of mine got "turned off" meat when she was pregnant.   She decided she hated it and wouldn't eat any meat.   Well, long story short, her baby was underweight and very sickly.   The baby had to stay in the hospital for several months.   I lost contact with her and do not know how her child progressed.   My personal opinion is that the Mother caused the problem by not eating properly -- namely, by not eating any meat.

--  Maybe we should make our dogs vegetarians.........

Meat Protein verses Plant ProteinThere has always been the staunch advocates and critics arguing
which protein source is the best for athletes, (or anyone for that
matter) wishing to increase their lean tissue. Evidence from the
American Journal of Clinical Nutrition may shed some light on this
ongoing debate

In a 12 week study examining the role of meat consumption coupled
with weight training, scientists at Penn State University found that a
diet containing meat was superior to a lacto-ovo vegetarian diet with
regard to gaining mass.

Nineteen overweight men aged 51 - 69 with about 30% bodyfat
participated in the study. Nine consumed a diet derived 15% - 17% of
calories from protein, half of which came from meat based sources,
beef, chicken, tuna etc., 15% from egg or milk products and 35% from
plant sources. The other Ten men consumed a lacto-ovo vegetarian diet
with 12%-15% of calories coming from protein, 40% of which came from
eggs, milk products and the remaining from plant sources.

Although the protein sources differed, the total amount of protein
consumed by each group was comparable, with no significant differences.
All subjects weight trained twice a week for the 12 week study,
performing three sets of each exercise at a weight equal to 80% of
their one repetition maximum. Exercises included leg extensions,
seated leg curls, row and chest press, all done on pneumatic strenght
training equipment.

Participants in both groups improved their strength by up to 38%
with no real difference between between the meat eaters and the
non-meat eaters. However a definite difference in body composition was
recorded. The lacto- ovo group had no change in fat mass and a slight
decrease, ( about 1.2% ) in lean body mass. In contrast, the meat
eating group experienced a 4.6% decrease in fat mass coupled with a
2.7% increase in lean body mass. In addition, the fibre size of the
thigh muscle improved more in meat eaters, than in the lacto-ovo group.
(16% vs 7% respectively.)

Vick was imprisoned for the illegal activities he was convicted of doing. He was sentenced and served his time. He paid his debt to society. We all hope he learned from this and moves on with his life. Staying out of trouble. I for one wish him the best.

As for the money and career, I see no issue with it. It is what he does for a living. The amount is the NFL pays for doing the job. If an Iron Worker (making $45/hour) goes to jail for the same crime he doesn't come out and have to work at McDonalds for minimum wage.

Article continued -- on Meat vs Plants for Protein
-----------------------------------

The results clarify the point that meat is an important source of
protein, which simply can't be substituted with plant based protein
sources.

The bottom line: for increasing lean mass consuming some meat as
part of your overall eating plan is better than a vegetarian based
diet. Even in our quest for lean tissue gains, (ie. muscle) we should
still consider our health and keep meat lean and in moderation.
