My apologies Judron55, guess I need to pay closer attention to what I am reading and who posted it .

Tessj10, if Vicks has apologized for what he did to the dogs, my oops, I just don't remember reading it. Course that could be the old memory going .

"judge not less ye be judged", I guess Michael Vick made that quote, but whomever made it I find people on this forum who think they are in positions to disregaed this!! Amazing!

Judronn allow me to clarify my statement! I know of no caucasions who own pitt bulls in the community I live in! Blacks and hispanics I know who own them ! In my community pitt bulls have inherited a reputation forced upon them by those in this community who owned and fought them. Several houses have been busted for housing numerous vicous pitts who were abused and mistreated by blacks and hispanics. One young mixed hispanic -black man allowed his pitt bull off leash to charge me and my dog who wason leash. The dog charged and I called the police to inform the youth of leash laws! The youth told the police I shoud be carefull because his pitt bull could whoop my dog in a fight telling police "you guys know who would win' pitt bull always win" Pitt bulls are a "status symbol" to various ethnic groups thus becoming a "cultural thing" to certain aged ethnic groups! Same as dobermans were once used as guard dogs for drug houses in certain areas of cities! Just as our GSD are to some a status symbol of affluence and power! Mittelwest kennels being an example of gsd being a cultural thing in respect to affluence and influence transending ethnic and cultural boundries! Wow what a mouth full!

I knew an old swamp cracker (his term not mine) who raised pit bulls for fighting. He and his cohorts were white. This was many years ago before pits were a nationally recoginized breed (AKC). His dogs had the best food, housing, and medical care. He went to church every Sunday and his word was his bond. He followed Cajun rules for fighting and said a good fighting dog is treated with dignity and should never be human aggressive (if one of his was, it was destroyed with a bullet to the back of the head, he said instant dead, no suffering, again his words). He got out of the fighting business because he said it was being taken over by "dishonorable imbiciles who brought drugs and crime into an honorable past time" (his words). I didn't find out about the pits until much later and he had already switched over to raising Black Mouth Curs (Curs are an incredible working dog, very intelligent).
He believed that he was doing no wrong in breeding and fighting his dogs. They were well cared for and (in his words) doing what God intended just like Border Collies herding sheep and Terriers killing vermin and so on. He was raised with dogs bred for specific purposes and no one could change his mind.
Education is the key. Incorporating culture and background with current knowledge and theory to educate people that there are different ways. If Vicks is able to take his experiences and educate others with similar life experiences that there are better ways, then this was not a waste.

SWAMP CRACKER! LOL LOL A CAJUN SOMBITCH I ASSUME! Yes there are some people who raise dogs for specific purposes! no animal should be raised and trained specifically to fight against others of it's kind irregardless of how it is treated during it's fighting career! There are only two purposes to train and raise fighting dogs ! Human pleasure and profit! The only one to profit from this barbaric behavior is the human ! the human experiences the "thrill of the fight" and the expectation of winning ! Vick could be the victim of circumstances! Since he has been trained as a modern day gladiator in the ring of the stadium! Which the American public idolizes and promotes as exciting and profitable ! Half naked dancin cheerleaders with booze flowing and bets being placed! Vick could be said to only have been doing what he was trained to do! He transferred his training of giving pleasure to the public through his gladiatorial escapades to receiving those pleasures form the dog fighting arena1 What ? Have I become a phycharisitrist

I do not like what M. Vicks did, but when I look at all of the things that are done today in the name of love such as the animal rights activists and as far as that goes some of the terrible decisions I have made myself, I can find no good reason to deprive this man of his job.  I think it is apples and oranges.

For example, are we the rightous ones going to graciously allow him to work at McDonalds?  How about DQ?  Or are we going to be big and allow him to work for GE?  Where do we draw the line and say as Gustov put it "sanctimoniously" allow him to work in a place that allows him to earn $60k and under, 70k and over but not above $100k?

How in the world did we appoint our selves to dictate how much money he is allowed to make in this country.  I am pro LE. Pro accountability for criminals, but if they have served their time, paid their debt, then I must accept the fact that he or anyone else is allowed to continue the profession they were in.  This is the United States, and last I knew I fought for the right for a man/woman to make a living the best they can.  Only exceptions are sex offenders working with kids,  Drug addicts working in a pharmacy  or any other crime that puts a convicted felon in a situation that can lead to more victumization and harm.  No connection between football and dogs.

As far as role models, If parents are allowing their children to make role models of todays athletes or movie stars or other entertainers,  then they have some serious soul seaching to do.  As a parent I monitored what they did and put up rules and guidlines for what was acceptable and not.  This is not full proof, but certainly pays its dividends.  I simply do not allow political correctness or any other garbage philosophy to dictate to me on how to raise my children.  I am more than pleased with what they have done with their lives.

I wish Vick well.  Hope he sees dogs in a different light.  I have no intention on traveling to Mexico to tell them to give up something they have done for hundreds of years.  Let the contiousness of the nation dictate that.  The man was found guilty by his peers, sentanced, paid his debt, now let him do what he does best to earn a living.

Raymond, he was actually a Florida swamp cracker. He did have Cajun family though. He was one funny guy. He hated gator poachers and how they baited the gators, said it was too cruel to the bait. He ran curs and catahoulas for boar hunting (his catahoulas were imported from Louisiana by family). If you know swamp lore, then you know how those gator hooks are baited. Talk about sick.

As for you a Psychiatrist...............hmm

P.S.  This whole thing is about which part of us is making the decisions.  Rational unbiased reasoning or emotional unreasonable standards that defy good sense.  As with any topic, which part is dominating our decision making.  My neighbor pisses me off so I am going to sue the hell out of him first chance I get?  I hate Micheal Vicks for what he did so I want his life to be ruined for ever?  Do I want to be judged by the same standard?  Not really, but it is ok to judge him by this standard?
