On this data base, are the Berger Blanc Suisse listed under White Shepherd? I guess I am asking if this data base has a listed for White GSD and a listing for the Berger Blanc Suisse? I can't seem to find a separate heading for the BBS. Kat867

Hexe is correct.
Many white colored GSD's used to be in the White Shepherd database, but we recently spent a lot of time and effort to move the GSD's who were white to the GSD database. Thus the White Shepherds should only contain the Berger Blanc Suisse and any other country that has a separate White Shepherd Breed. We may have missed a few, but we did our best.
The two databases are linked however and if a White Shepherd has GSD ancestors, the ancestors will be in the GSD database, but when you look at the White Shepherd pedigree, you will see all dogs (from both databases)
But in order to find a dog, you must know whether it is a White Shepherd or a GSD so that you look in the correct database.

The White German Shepherd is a totally different breed than the Berger Blanc Suisse Shepherd AKA White Swiss Shepherd

You're RIGHT! There is no category for the Berger Blanc Suisse - I have notified several requesting they add the breed.

If you want to get information on the Breed you can go to http://www.BergerBlancSuisse.US There is a video which explains the difference between the GSD and the BBS

Also Wikipedia has good information as well.

Hope this helps!

That may be true Angelena, but the category that PDB has for the Berger Blanc Suisse is the White Shepherd.
As I stated, a white GSD is in the GSD database,
The Berger Blanc Suis are in the White Shepherd database.
It has been suggested that we change the name "White Shepherd" to Berger Blanc Suisse and the Admins are looking into it but there are other countries involved (UK) and I think the Dutch also have a White Shepherd.. though I am not certain about this. Memory fails as one approaches 100.
So for now......this is how we do it.
If you are offering to go through the thousands of dogs in the White Shepherd database and identify the Berger Blanc Suisse and move them to a New breed called Berger Blanc Suisse, then let me know and I'll advise the Admins.

It is hardly a "totally different breed" - although now recognised as a separate one, by many countries' Kennel Clubs -  since ALL the BBS/Swiss White Shepherds  originated from (white or genetically white-carrying) GSDs, and have been deliberately developed along distinct lines from that base, for about the last 3 decades.

If a new catagory is started for the Berger Blanc Suisse breed on the database you will have separated the BBS from the White Shepherd and created another breed when the only difference is the dogs are registered by different names in different countries/registries.

If PDB was to change it (not saying you should) I'd say go with White Shepherd/Berger Blanc Suisse because at this point in time, that would be more accurate than anything else and it brings the breed together rather than separating it buy a name. Wouldn't that just involve changing the catagory name in the program from White Shepherd to White Shepherd/Berger Blanc Suisse rather than having to change it for each dog and trying to figure out if they were registered as WS or BBS or both? Again, not saying you should, it was just a thought.

>>By the way: there is no special connection to Switzerland !<<

As far as the FCI is concerned there is a connection, Switzerland is listed as their country of origin. No different than the GSD whose country of origin is Germany. Not all BBS foundation dogs came from Switzerland, people know that...did all of the foundation dogs used for the GSD come from Germany?
