German Shepherd DogBaron von der Krone fr. Max (1898) HGHSon of Horand of Grafrath. According to von Stephanitz in the 1921 edition his book, claims that Baron was placed in unfortunate hands, and therefore did not give much to the early breeding stock like his half-brother Hecktor v. Schwaben. Although his littermate sister Thekla I von der Krone, produced Beowulf Sonnenberg / Wolf and his less known brother Pilot. According to v. Stephanitz , it might be a bit more correct that one should talk about a Beowulf line, instead of a Horand line, because of Beowulf’s very strong reproductive talents. ....5.5 years ago
German Shepherd DogV/CH (US) Bernd Vom Kallengarten SCHHII AD ROM„An important male that came to the USA in the late 50‘s (60). Imported by Ernie Loeb. Bernd‘s sire, Watzer von Bad Melle, was an Axel bon der Deininghauserheide, son from a Rolf daughter. Bernd was described as typically Rolf, big head, rich black and tan color , and a good front. He was to prove one of the most influential sires in modern American breed history, producing consistently good tempered but tough and healthy progeny with good forehands, bone structure, substance, head and body length. But he was also criticized for weak ears, steep croup, loose ligamentation, long coats and a high percentage of hip and elbow dysphasia. Bernd introduced the solid-black gene into the American breed. Judge and author Garrett Gordon said that „breeders bred good bitches to him, some from the satisfied customers that had gotten dogs from Ernie Loeb before.“ From the book „K9 Working Breeds: Characteristics and Capabilities“ by Resi Gerritsen and Ruud Haak January 1, 2007 ....5.6 years ago

German Shepherd DogV Claudius vom Hain SCHH3found this: "Claudius was born in 1944 in a litter of 6 all gray puppies. It is possible that Claudius was dominant for the colour gray, as I have no indication that he produced anything other than this colour. There is a strong belief among the German working breeders that there is a strong correlation between the dark gray original colour and working characteristics. I spoke to some of the old time breeders about Claudius, as I was most interested in why they should include this unusual dog with almost untraceable bloodlines in their plans. I got mixed reactions: The working dog breeders such as Alfred Hahn and Josef Wasserman stressed the working ability from the progeny from this line. When I spoke to some of the conformation- oriented breeders, their reaction was, "they felt he was vicious, too aggressive, and produced a similar type of animal as himself". At the time of Claudius they had just come out of the war, they certainly had wanted the dogs aggressive. When doing the attack work, they spent little time in trying to get the dogs to let go of the padded arm. They concentrated on getting dogs to bite and hang on. It would seem that Claudius and his get excelled in the bite work. Even though there was much judging on aggression, it is also apparent that the Claudius stock, were structurally desirable animals " ~Garrett Gordon Author of German Shepherd Dog History ....6 years ago
White ShepherdWhite Lilac of Blinkbonny SCHH1White Lilac of Blinkbonny was one of the founding dogs used to create the first litter for the breed “White Swiss Shepherd” or Berger Blanc Suisse” along with Lobo of White Burch. White German Shepherd Dogs had been almost completely exterminated from much of Europe (culled) after the SV declared them albinos and that they diluted coat colors of colored shepherds. Later, when more was known about genetics, this was found to be not correct. They are not albinos, nor do they cause dilution in colored litters. The white German Shepherd Dog could still be found in the USA, Canada, UK. In the 1970’s Mrs Agathe Burch moved from the United States to Switzerland, and brought her male White Shepherd Lobo of White Burch. He was mated with White Lilac of Blinkbonny from England, and they are bred under the Shangrila prefix. Their pups began to spread throughout Europe and were breed with other white American/Canadian imports. Lobo’s and Lilac’s first litter was the first to be officially enrolled in the book of the origins for the WSS. In 2002 FCI recognized the breed that was officially denominated "White Swiss Shepherd" as provisional, and in 2011 they were accepted by the FCI on a definitive basis. While WWS are still come from 100% German shepherd lines, the breed standard is different in relation to conformation and temperament. ....6.1 years ago
