I am much more familiar with SL dogs. This pup is my first WL. He is 4 months old and perfect. Just what I asked for from the breeder.

Here is a link to his pedigree:

What can anyone tell me?

Here is what I can tell you...Start with your post like this...
"I am interested in getting this puppy because I want to......"
"The reason I am getting this puppy at 4 months of age is...."
"The reason I like this pedigree is because...."

Finally, if he perfect as you say, why are you questioning it? No one can tell you for sure, unless you supply the reasons why you are getting him and what your long range plans are.

There is not a dog, especially a four-month old puppy - of any bloodlines - on this earth, that anyone can truly say is 'perfect'. What you have, Sitstay, is a really cute new baby dog. And of course you think he is lovely. Good. Enjoy him.  I hope he develops well for you and enjoys a healthy, happy life with you.

But as Hired Dog is pointing out, you won't know if he is right for whatever you want to do with him, unless you have a clear idea what that actually is. And unless you start from that point when choosing a puppy, before you put your money down, before you even look at a litter, and have an idea what his ancestry might  produce for you that may get you towards what you want, you are already looking at  the German Shepherd from 'the wrong way up'. Then what advantage comes from his being of Working Lines rather than the Showdogs you are more used to ?

What did you suggest to the breeder that you were looking for ?

I picked this litter because I have seen dogs from the first litter (this was a repeat). They were biddable, fun to train (according to their owners) and I saw them around our competitive scene doing different things (herding, obedience and rally, tracking and nose work). I liked what I saw.

My hopes are to do some nose work and tracking and rally obedience. I am just curious about his bloodlines. Although I like the dogs from these lines that I have seen, and my pup is everything I wanted (breeder picked based on what I wanted to do in the future), I don't know these lines with the exception of Troll and Fero. I was hoping for some insight into the pedigree.

I srated out thinking about what I did and did not want in a dog. Then I started looking at breeders. It took me two years to decide on a breeder and another year to wait for a litter that had a pup that would be a good fit.

I told the breeder I wanted a dog that could live in a home with other dogs (my last WGSL was not able to do this and I spent 10 years crating and rotating).

I told her that I wanted a dog that could handle being at competitive venues without stress (my last GSD- see above- was a monster sheep herder, but had explosive diarrhea when at a trial because he couldn't handle the environment.

I also wanted a dog that was trainable for the things I was interested in, which I listed for her. I told her I wanted trainable, but with a really good off switch in the house. He is four months old, so we are working on that off switch.

I have been watching a newer trainer in my area and am very excited about working with him. It took over two months to get into his puppy class (starts at the end of July). He is a retired K9 handler in LE. In the meantime, we are in a puppy obedience class run by a friend of mine. I have done a lot of work with my puppy and he is a rock star in our current class. He is super environmentally resilient.

So, it seems that you are very happy, so far, with this puppy, yes? If so, why does it matter what the pedigree says?
I am not a pedigree expert, I dont pretend to be one, but, as long as the dog in front of you is what you wanted, that is what matters. Maybe someone who happens to know about those dogs in the pedigree will come and tell you more.
Best of luck with your new puppy.

You wrote "I picked this litter because I have seen dogs from the first litter (this was a repeat)"
.
While I do not know much about WL GSDs I personally know a lot of the most well-known and successful SL breeders in Germany. And I pass on this anecdote which I think is relevant to what you wrote. I once asked the breeder who was probably the most successful SL breeder in the last 30 years, who was also my friend, why he did not repeat a litter which produced not only the Sieger but two VA females. His reply was "You very rarely get the same thing twice."

sitstay, I won't comment on your specific bloodline, the things I did are in a very different venue....., however it does seem you did as much homework as possible, chose a good breeder and so far are very happy with your pup. can't do much better than that at this point.

I do agree with kloss that the highest levels reached in one breeding, and producing a Sieger and 2 VA is a very level in Show, and you could substitute the highest level in any venue one chooses, may not repeat itself simply because of the millions of combinations of genes, luck, exposures and abilities of the owner etc.

I will say that the reasons, attributes and qualities of the dogs, that were the basis of one breeding are all still valid no mater if it's a repeat or many repeats.

congratulations,

Rik
