Rik you are right of course: we're all human and it doesn't do to generalise too much.
I know what you mean about people saying they want to Show, n then failing to turn up after about the first one. I'd rather they were more honest about not really wanting to go along in the first place; so what if the pup they are then allowed to buy isn't the PoL ? Much of what is seen by judges isn't all that obvious to the average, undereducated, pet owner / public anyway, so how have they lost out ? If its for future breeding intentions they are taking big risks with a puppy anyway, no matter how promising. And by their lack of interest they could be losing awards that would give additional selling points. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face ...

nah cat, I was referring to the ones who only want to do show, get a dog for show and then bow out.

the dress thing is kind of funny as a few years ago the judge at a GSDCA national wore what was described as a "billowing" dress and some exhibitors complained that it was the reason their dogs "spooked". sad really.

a dog attacking the dress would have been quite funny.

Towels used for early enticement/drive building, puppy play, etc. The dress probably looked like a great big (moving) towel, so my dog thought it was "play time!" Fortunately, I recognized her actions and intentions (definitely not spooked or afraid). Unfortunately, I didn't correct as effectively as I could/should have because I was trying to avoid getting disqualified for "harsh" correction in the ring and didn't know for sure what constituted "harsh," so erred on the side of caution.  Fortunately, the Judge was understanding, wise, and had a sense of humor when I told her about my failure to socialize with dresses, and she gathered the skirt part of the dress tightly to herself. Of course, the dog wasn't fooled and she still wanted to play (sigh).

Yes it was funny because the Judge didn't get bitten and the dress didn't get damaged or even wrinkled (some kind of flowing, loose, lightweight synthetic). It's a lot easier to laugh about it now than it was when I was in the ring.

PS:  Wonder if it was the same Judge with the same dress LOL  Or maybe one Judge copycatted from the other LOL

it's interesting (at least for me) to see these different presentations give different first impressions, all on one page.

my favorite stack is #2, but with just an inch or so placement on front, #3 gives a much better impression of upper arm, shoulder angle.

and then the croup looks absolutely different in different pics.

these pics go to reinforce the truism that a picture is a poor way to judge conformation, even though it's a national pastime in ASL.
