slippery elm will help heal the gut, I would supplement with this 1/2 hour before every meal. http://www.anniesherbals.com/Getting%20started.html you can get it at health food stores.  I hope things calm down for you and the pack...

OMG, Love the pup in your avatar!

Sorry to hear about the giardia, I had a time with coccidia for some reason this past time around.   I would suggest Yogurt as well like other people have stated.  it helps calm the stomache and adds back good stuff to the digestive tract.  6 weeks is a very long time to treat something such as giardia.  I would be looking into why the pups are still carrying it after so long.  they should be cured by now.  do you have any standing water anywhere, such as ponds, or do the adults get access to creeks or ponds?  in this heat, stagnant water can breed loads of bad bugs in it. canned pumpkin helps to firm stools up.

has anyone had a vet suggest panacur along with other giardia treatments?  or is it just with coccidea?

Lady Frost:)
Yes things seem to be back to normal...Knock on wood:)

I went out and got some Prozyme and some other stuff and kept the pups on rice and hamburger for a cpl weeks and have now weened them onto a fairly bland food made by "Now" and will ween then back onto there regular food when i get half way through that bag.
The blood in the urine seems to be a side effect of the high dose flagyl as all the test work came back clear and she hasnt done anything for over a week know:)

Can not even explain how much of a nightmare this has been but on the flip side a learning experience. vets are happy in there own little way as they have learned through my girls on how to deal with it.

I think after a long phone call with the University vet school in Illinois that we had some rouge strain of giardia and the only thing that cured it in the end was high doses of flagyl mixed with 10days of Panacur. And some impeccable cleaning and rotating of dogs.

But thanks for everyones help and thank you Lady Frost for your encouraging words..I really needed them at that point as i thought i was gonna end up in a mental hospital if i saw poop covered dogs one more time...lol

Uber Land:

Thank you she is a beautiful girl this one:) I will get some updated pics of her as she is the blackest sable now:). And she has the sweetest temperment to go along with those drop dead looks:)

Oddly we have no idea why they couldnt kick it. They got it from a boarding kennel and from the time they were diagnosed none of the dogs were together at the same time. I was using bleach and ammonia and they were in a dog run to do there bussiness and then were brought back in immedietly and i went out and scooped sprayed with ammonia left for 20 mins and then sprayed again with bleach and then washed the run down and they had no access to the yard. There was no way they were recontaminating themselves. They just never got rid of it until we really bumped up the flagyl dose
Yes we did end up mixing the panacur with the Flagyl but we did that a few times and it wasnt untill we really bumpeed the dosage of the flagyl with the panacur that they finally kicked it!
