This is my pup, Pele.  He is now 10 months old and showing promise in his training for Schutzhund and has a real serious side to him - he is a blast to train.  Anyone know about these lines?  Yes I have thoughts and I have discussed with the breeder, etc.  I just want to know others thoughts.  I have tried to find more info on Carlo vom Hilsblick, but not much out there.

Not bad not great average IMO

Urry, what are you basing that opinion on? The first 5 generations of that pedigree is full of excellent kennels, WUSV and BSP competitors, and some of the best producers of the past 20 years:

Fado Karthago
Jago Lindenhalle (probably the best son of Mink)
Troll von der bösen Nachbarschaft
Carlo v Hilsblick (a very good Jago son)
V Aly vom Vordersteinwald
SG Tom van't Leefdaalhof

Granted, with the Danish Jabina kennel some of the names aren't going to be as well known, but they have been producing some excellent dogs who have done quite well in national and world level competitions.

I'd say that's significantly better than average. Maybe it doesn't ring *your* bells because it doesn't have any of the currently popular studs in the first few generations?

The first 3 generations could have a bit more "going on" with regards to performance/titling/competition, assuming you're looking for a dog for competitive schutzhund training. The big question, however, is how is the dog himself? Is he what you're looking for?

I like it, but I would be more interested in what the dog has rather than his papers.

I'd say that you either have a very disproportionate view of average or you need to look at a lot more pedigrees.

Thanks for the replies.  At 10 months Pele is a rascal hellion!.  I am doing SchH with him.  He is quite long in the back at this awkward age and will be a bit large I think.  Won't be surprised if he reaches 85-90 pounds.  He is physically very strong and healthy thus far.  He has a very hard , bite, fair food drive and toy drive that in super. He is quite biddable and everything I want in a dog. He is social at this age and quite confident.  He has no dog aggression (like previous GSDs I have owned).  He is my second dog in the sport of schutzhund and he will challenge.  I realize that I train the dog, not the pedigree. It is dissapointing that mom is not titled.  However, some may argue that SchH is not the be-all end all. For whatever reason, the owners did not pursue titles. Of course at 10 months more will be revealed as he develops and as I learn to develop him.  Like I said before he is a blast to train as well as a challenge for me.  Anyone seen Carlo work or know of successful offspring of Carlo?  Thanks again, just curious.

Nice pedigree, interesting.  Very good starting point. Now lets see what the dog can do.  Good luck with your training.

Kyle
