"Michelle Cramblett Baker and her boxer Jasper were in town for the Land O'Lakes Kennel Club Dog Show and spent the night at the Envision Hotel in South St. Paul. Baker told KARE 11 Jasper was in a kennel in the back of her 2013 silver Town and Country minivan when the vehicle was stolen.

The van had Illinois license plate AH26052 at the time of theft, and purple and pink tie-dyed seat covers. Baker said there were dog decals on the back license plate.

Baker told KARE 11 that Jasper responds to his name and is very friendly and that there will be a large cash reward for anyone that can provide information to help find him.

"That dog is all I care about. That’s all I want back," Baker said. "We went to 101 shows last year. He sleeps in my bed. I was there when that dog was born. That’s my dog."

She implores whoever stole her dog to please leave him in a warm place, like at a veterinarian, a firehouse or at a police station. Baker said that the thief can keep her van and purse, as long as they return her missing dog.

In a post on social media, South Saint Paul Police wrote "As history has shown us many vehicles stolen during the cold weather months are used for transportation and then dumped, we are asking you to take look outside and up and down your block."  "

Wait a minute. Okay. I get it. She wants the dog back more than her purse. BUT does she realize by the thief keeping her purse - that person will be able to steal her identity AND know EXACTLY where she lives? What's to say the thief won't try to break into her home next????

The dog and van were recovered.  The article says nothing about the purse. I hope the woman gets her house and all vehicle locks, ignitions, garage codes, and alarm codes changed immediately (some people keep a remote for their home alarm on their key ring, and most people keep the garage door remotes in their cars).  May also need to change any toll passes, parking permits, and linked credit cards.  Probably a good idea for her to make sure the owner information in AKC records and dog license registrations hasn't been changed (and update passwords, etc,).  Plus all the usual stuff associated with any theft/loss of wallet to prevent/stop identity theft and credit issues.  All of this even if she got her purse and keys back because copies of anything/everything could have been made.
