Very beautiful, thank you for sharing. The filming was so good and clear, marvelous

IMO it was the best lineup of GSD's at Westminster for many years. A lot consistency in good ASL breed type, sound movers, good pigmentation, calm temperaments. I really liked the BOB female. Any of the entries would have been worthy of the BOB win. The breeder/co-owner/handler of the BOB female, Kent Boyles, is well known in the AKC world for breeding and showing very good GSD's. He also trains some of his GSD's in IPO and has used some German dogs in his breeding program. Maybe the gap is narrowing?

I should have known. The BOB female's dam is a double on Dallas. Almost every ASL I've liked for the last 10 years has been related to that dog.

LOL! My favourite dog, too, Blitzen, as you well know...

Didn't like the female that went BOB. She's a hock-walker, and though I haven't been able to see the video yet, others said she wobbles behind when she gaits.

by Blitzen on 17 February 2015 - 17:02

She is defintely NOT a hock walker.  Not sure why anyone would even say that. Have you ever seen her? If not, watch the video and make you own decision. In fact I don't recall seeing one GSD on that video that could be considered a hock walker. IMO Dallas did more for the current ASL GSD than any other male I can think of.

Watching the Westminster Show was very disapointed to me.I went to my first AKC show in 1984 and when i compare those old dogs to the one i saw yesteray i don't see much difference nor improvement.Beside the winner BOB female which was by far the best dog from all, rest represented very poor quality. Here is whay. They have very weak heads, very weak long weak muzzle, very weak pasterns, way too much angulation in the rear, pronounced chests proportions, wash out color(only black and yellow or almost white,no red).Males had no bones, expression, and i would never breed to any of them.

Many showed like they didn't want to be there and were ready to take off anytime, weak temperament.Overall very disapointing, and i think the gap between the German bred dogs widen even more thenh ever. This is my point of view and i don't want to get anyone angry nor insolted, some may desigree with me some don't,but i have to express myself how i feel.

I disagree. IMO ASL's are better than they were when I first saw them in 1969. In 1987 I watched Manhattan become the first and only GSD to win BIS at Westminster, his competiton was not nearly as good as was Rumor's yesterday. By closing the gap I was speaking about more ASL breeders thinking about breeding to German dogs and trying IPO with their dogs. They will never resemble one another, no breeder wants that anyway. ASL breeders hate GSL heads and vice versa.

ALS' are not double handed by their owners running around in their own lane ringing bells. The AKC forbids doubling as you know, so it must be done discretely; doublers need to hide behind barriers so the dog looks alert.  I didn't see any of those dogs trying to leave the ring, they were looking for their doubler. Did you notice the female handler in the brown pant suit throwing up her arms before she started to gait her dog? She was calling to the doubler to get moving.

Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder and all dog shows are only one person's opinion on any given day.
