I've had GSD's for over 20 years, not always German bred, so I know very little about the Martins, etc. I've found this thread very interesting, thanks!

It was good to hear from Bltzen, who has been in this breed for over 20 years, acknowledging positively to this thread.  It would be encouraging to hear from anyone else who got something from the thread.

That's very true, Mackenzie. Not being a breeder myself, and not being involved in the breed in the Martin era, I felt I had nothing of worth to add. I was just giving my thoughts on why some of the more knowledgeable people on the board didn't bother to contribute.

Not saying the thread wasn't worth reading, not at all!

Gustav is always worth listening to...

And I value Blitzen's opinions on the American dogs!

Despite the comments of some posters that this had all been done before the viewing numbers are very good and still rising despite no contribution for the last four days (5,599 as I write this post). This to me indicates that there is more interest than at first thoughts and some of the readers will have got something from it. As the PDB has now been taken over by contributors from the USA it would be interesting to know how many followers are from other parts of Europe and the rest of the world.

BRADY BEE

I am from scotland , and have found the thread very interesting and informative ( even if its been done before ) . I've had german shepherds all my life ( I am 53 ) , my grand father and my father had them, just as pets. Haven' t a clue about their lineage , but they were completly differnt from the gsl of today! As an adult I have always had gsl. My first sight of one was at my local training club run by the late John Young . That would be in the early eighties, and imho they have improved since then. Although I am not a fan of exageration, but I have always been able to find the type I personally like . I must say though , that I am now drawn towards the wl . Some very nicely made wl dogs out there .

Forgot to add that the temperament has definately changed too. The dogs are much softer than the ones I knew as a child !
