Well said D.H I bred a bitch that was sold and the owners tried to mate her and failed and the vet said she would never mate naturally so she came back to me and listening to the vet I never bothered when she came into season and guess what not only did she mate with the male unsupervised I might add, but she delivered 6 healthy puppies and was a great mother. One of my imports was mated twice to the same male a proven sire and failed to conceive but the third time I left them to-gether and they mated on day 18 and since she has had 3 healthy litters of 11/11/8.

I have done an AI under a special circumstance. The bitch was a working-line cross with much civil drive and would flag and court with the male but not let him penetrate. She made a biting fight every time. Physically she was fine, and after the AI she delivered a litter of ten (10) healthy puppies and was a perfect mother. During the next year she accepted a normal breeding from this same male. I personally do not see the issue with AI other than the additional cost if you use a veterinarian. I do not know why the S.V. still does not (officially) allow it but that is besides the point. The only issues with a breeding bitch should be: Can she deliver a healthy litter normally? And, will she be a good mother? Past that there should be no restrictions.
