Hans, I agree with much of what you say about the race card being used willy-nilly. You have identified anthropological groups correctly but how many people do you know who are aware of the information you posted. For me it is rather similar to Arabs being accused of anti-semitism by some Jews and non-Jews. It is ludicrous since Arabs are also semites! It is a case of terms being used without an understanding of what they mean.

I think much of the resentment against other races is based on a combination of ignorance and bigotry. Combine that with the economic down-turn that we are going through and it really does bring out the worst in people.  Yes, one can be against illegal immigrants or finding it irritating to have to press "1" for English when calling a vendor, without being racist.

I don't agree with you that for 99% of the people it is about character and not about race because I have come across enough people who make no bones about their racist views to convince me that it is more prevalent than you suggest.
