for anyone feeding canidae or some other pricier brands that you don't normally find in pet stores, call around to feed stores. they often carry these types of dog foods and also they may carry one or more raw diets. the prices are almost always better than a vet or fancier store.

I have told this before so Ill say it again

Nutro products have    menadione   Vit. K activity in them    even the Holistic food has it....it is poison..

It is a chemical vitamin and was not fit for human consumption....FDA would not approve it for people so dog food companies use it and feed companied use it...

'Our schutzhund club in Houston dropped Nutro and sAMS  EXCEED  because of the study on this crap in the dog foods...'

READ LABels>>>>>MENADIONE DOES TO THE LIVER JUST WHAT     SWEET AND LOW AND ASPERTAME DOES TO THE LIVER AND THE KIDNEYS AND THE GALL BLADDER.....LIVER IS YOUR FILTER SYSTEM    WHEN IT GET LOADED WITH TOXINS AND CANT SHED THEM ...LIVER FAILS AND WHOLE BODY EVIDENTUALLY GOES WHACKEY..

I HAVE ABIDED BY THIS RULE SINCE I FIRST GOT MY SHEPHERDS, UPON THE ADVISE OF A NUMBER ONE  BREEDER HERE IN THE USA AND SHE IS GERMAN.

I use to feed Natural Choice large breed lamb and rice. I had fed it for a long time. My dogs did ok on it for a while but then around Feb of this year they started getting very dry skin and loose stool. Also about this time Nutro pulled the large breed lamb off of the shelf saying that they were doing a product change. At this time I switched my dogs to Diamond Naturals lamb and rice. They are doing great on it. There energy level is good and their coats are great. One other good thing is that Diamond Naturals DOESNT have that MENADIONE crap in it.

WOW $123?! I pay I think $55 for a bag of Orijen, $34 for Canidae.  Lucky me, I work for a kennel that feeds Canidae, so they order extra and I buy from them cheaper, since they get a bulk price. Our puppy looks great on teh Orijen/WolfCub blend we feed her, and I think our others look equally good on Canidae.

Interesting comment comparing aspartame to menadione...I have a client who reminds me regularly who awful for me the diet soda is I carry around.  Then again, how many of us eat hamburger helper so our dogs can eat the best holistic foods?

Unfortunately, again YR does not know what she is talking about concerning the vitamin K. It is synthetic, meaning man-made, but it is the same chemical as naturally occurring vitamin K. And no, vitamin K in this form is not poisonous and neither is aspartame. However, a small number of people who have phenylketonuria will have problems with aspartame for reasons I won't bother to write here.

Feed what you like, but do not speak about something being a poison unless you can back it up with science. If you do not know the difference or not between something synthetic vs supposedly natural, that might be a good place to start. Ignorance is bliss.

steve1 - that is an incredible amount to pay for any food. I do feed Orijen but wouldn't at that price. I know your in Belgium but try this link and see if he can't do better than that. The guy I have dealt with is named Matt. They have free shipping on orders over $50 and the Orijen adult is or was $57.99 (or close to that) for the 29.7 lb. bag. I don't know if he ships international but I am sure there would have to be a charge for it. www.doggiezbest.com

I've been faithfully feeding my two labs Nutro dry foods for 13 years.  A few months ago they began to vomit and have diarrhea.  I took them off Nutro and have been making food for them and the vomiting and diarrhea stopped.  Unfortunately they are both currently exhibiting signs of degenerative myelopathy (I won't pay the $1500 to get a definitive diagnosis).  I find it hard to believe that they would both develop symptoms shortly after getting ill while eating Nutro foods.

I am having it tested at a private lab right now.  The man made vitamin K is not the issue here.  It is not poisen.

Bhall any results from your lab tests? I just found this website (thank you google) as I feed my GSD Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice and I am now very concerned.

Thank you
