I talked to my vet about having the dogs tattood, and they dont do it.
I have called all around and nobody does it. Is that something I can do myself and
still be able to register them with sv? I live in north east Florida. Thank you.

If you buy the supplies, yes, you can do it yourself(tattoo pliers and 1 set of letters and 1 set of numbers runs about $75 plus shipping). You will have to get a form available thru the GSDCA-WDA where you have your vet then check your tattoo you give the dog and sign CONFIRMING the tattoo indeed belongs to the dog tattooed, and then the German SV will accept it. The SV won't accept you saying you did it alone-it has to be vet-confirmed. The Tattoo confirmation form is here: http://www.gsdca-wda.org/forms/VETERINARIAN%20VERIFICATION%20OF%20TATTOO.pdf.
Once you get that first form done, then you have to fill out a 2nd form to get it submitted for acceptance with the SV: http://www.gsdca-wda.org/forms/APPLICATION%20FOR%20TATTOO%20CERTIFICATION%20rev%20031008.pdf. Please note it tells you what all you need for getting tattoo verification(must have an official 4-gen pedigree). You may have to go to the AKC and pay for this if your GSD isn't a German or Hungarian import(pedigree is inside the pages in those cases). Make sure you pay appropriate fees.
Maybe others know of other ways to get such done, but this is what I personally know.
Good luck.

Here in Fl most vet's prefer the micro chip they don't want to deal with the tatoo anymore. Why I don't know they won't tell me.
