Sunshine,

Don't you know that PETA doesn't believe in zoos either?

They want all the zoo and aquarium animals returned to the wild.

Only those with the money to go on a safari will be able to see an elephant or a lion or a canine.

Welcome to the United States of America, home of the unfree and the too stupid to make their own choices...

I notice they start out in the big cities.    Country folk would not be so quick to pass such laws.    I hope in the up coming elections we vote out every politition currently serving a term just to make a statement if nothing else.   Nothings being done anywhere that seems to make sense.    Oh well, I better watch my back yard, I can't do anything about yours.

I hope for all Texans that this too will fade into the sunset. Like the proposals in Virginia.

Oh geez, each time I read more it just seems to get worse.  On April 12, 2008 the Dallas Chapter 7Animal Ordinance    Revision is on a fast track with the mayor saying he will get this passed within 30 days (from April 2)!

Animal Services Director Willie McDaniel publicly stated that no Breeder Permits will be issued in residentially zoned areas, virtually making this a ban on all breeding!

What is next?? I don't live in Dallas, but I know several breeders in Dallas and they are not "puppy mills". This will affect them.

Breeders will also be allowed to pay a $500.00 a year fee in order to keep their dogs not fixed.

The permit will cost $500 per year per dog and will restrict breeding to one litter per permit per year.

Never mind the $500 a Breeder/Dog Owner has to pay for an Intact License, but ...
before to long, Puppies/Dogs will become a luxury, no common man can afford to buy!

Not only will the expense of the Intact License Fee be past on to the Buyer (which I'm glad to pay) but soon there will be fewer Puppies available to the same number of Families or Individuals, wanting to own a dog, as there are today
- the purchase price of a Puppy or Dog is bound to be effected in a bad way …

And the beat goes on. All dog breeders/owners opposed to this type legislature need to understand one very important thing - you cannot sit  back  smugly feeling all fat and happy like some here  thinking it's not going to happen to you since you live in suburbia. It starts with an urban nanny law and quickly spreads to the rural areas. All the politicos will want their pieces of the pie; if it makes money for Dallas or LA, it will make money for the outlying communities. Also PETA et al are never going to rest until every single dog owner in this entire country cannot breed dogs as long as there are dogs in shelters. They contribute to the re-election campaigns of many of the legisaltors who are pushing the spay/neuter laws in their respective states.  The attitude - so what, I live in the country, it ain't gonna happen to me any time soon is twisted logic as well as just plain short sighted and stupid.  You still need to be concerned and and become a part of the community who opposes such legislation; go to these meetings with an attorney versed in dog law. Otherwise, it's only a matter of time. Dallas and LA are the protocol  locations for this  type of legislature.

WOW!! I wonder how the puppy mills are going to find a way around THIS one, if it becomes law!

(Of course, this is an urban bill, so most of them won't be affected, until this insanity spreads to the rural areas.)

It will probably just drive them underground, and 'legitimate' companies, like Hunte Corp. will still act as 'brokers' for these illegally bred dogs...

I'd gladly pay a fee to keep my dogs intact, but $500??  That's ridiculous!!

If this becomes law, they will be importing pets from Mexico and elsewhere, and lots of diseases like rabies, distemper, etc. along with them!

Your average pet owner will not be willing to buy puredbred pups any more.

Not to mention it will almost be impossible to enforce this ordinance and will require a load of additional employees. Hunte Corp will probably be exempt as they buy the litters, I don't think they are actually the breeder of record.

BTW the CA law is being challenged by "The American Sporting Dog Alliance". If anyone is interested, I'll include the link to their site and you can surf around and see what they are planning.

Thanks for pointing that out VKH, I appreciate your correcting my statement.
