Sunshine, what "terrible experience" is concerned, I just decided not to write anything there, seeing as it turned out to be a thread without interest and with a lot of silly posts. However, what the ZW is concerned, this in my humble opinion, is extremely important for all GSD breeders and lovers. I myself live in Spain, but the last two dogs I have registered with the SV and they have their ZW, as well as the DNA. The first out of a litter which was registered was "Orasis de El Rancho Hanseatic", unfortunately stolen from my garden, shortly after having run VA in Spain and become Spanish Champion. She was my "house dog", and it is still hurting very much...... but let's get back to the ZW. She had been registered a ZW of 86 or 85, not lower, being an a1 (normal). You can see her on this database, as well as her brother "Odax de El Rancho Hanseatic", who was x-rayed at the age of six and also has the a1 (normal). The ZW of both were lowered two points, I believe it was from 86 and is now 84. I am trying to get a female bak, out of the only litter "Orasis" ever had, the father is "Wallace aus Agrigento". First, prior to buying her back, the x-ray has to be taken. If she is ok, I will get her back and make the DNA and inform the SV. In case the hips come out normal, I do think the ZW could go from 84 now to 83, but I am not too sure. But I know they will take this into consideration. They have the SV-Genetics, that are CD's that come out upgraded every three months, where you can look up the dogs and their hip status, ZW and DNA. I think, at least if your dogs descend from German bred dogs you could find out something there. Besides, you can have dogs with a "noch", as you call it (a3) and a lower ZW than certain dogs with better hips. This all depends on parents, grandparents, etc. I agree with Silbersee, I think it is an excellent tool. As I said before, there are not only German bred dogs on this list, mine, for example are Spanish bred, but I am German and a member of the SV since 1977. There are dogs bred in many different countries that have for one reason or another been registerred at the SV. I will now try to register another dog on this base: "Rubin de El Rancho Hanseatic", first of all, after her pups have grown a bit more ( the co-owner had a litter) take her to the vet and take blood which is mixed afterwards I think with Kalium, I can tell you teh complete data if you wish, and send it to the laboratory the SV now is working with, in order to have her DNA. Her father is Spanish-bred, but is also inscribed at the SV, so I can also find her ZW. I personally find this "excellent tool" very helpful, although breeders here in Spain normally or do not even know about it or ignore it completely. I certainly will always use it for orientation. Kind regards, Marion

Dankeschoen Marion. I am alittle concerned because I have an Ursus male with "A-Fast Normal". If I am correct Ursus is ZW84 and my dog's mother was ZW86. The medium would be 85, which would be his ZW at birth. Then 3 points against him for "Fast Normal", right? That would bring him to just under 90. I have been seeing some line breeding on Ursus. . . and wonder about the results of pups coming out of this type of line breeding as far as hips are concerned. A valid question? Someone told me, that my dog could theoretically bred to bitches with a HDZW of up to 110. From another source, I heard never to consider a bitch with an HDZW value over 100. I suppose, this is my battle, trying to figure out what this means for me and my dog. I am a firm believer in trying to eliminate HD as far as possible, genetically. But, as you can see, I just don't know enough about it. I am very sorry to hear about your stolen dog. I have seen the posts on this subject. I can imagine how painful it is to loose a member of your family in such a terrible way and not knowing how she is faring. Good luck with obtaining the female. Sunshine
