A friend with a similar experience recommended that I do not open the crate at airport, I simply keep the dog crated  & I wait till arriving at my place or at least a quiet place mid way where a maximum of a 2 to 3 persons only present. Then I open it & see the reaction of the dog. He does not wish me to open the crate at the airport in the presence of many strangers where the dog can be confused due to the crowd & the too many different scents at this stage. What do you think?

Please prompt replies as he is arriving on Wednesday June 16th, 2010. I will video tape the first meeting for you all to see it.

VanessaT- a very nice & impressing film. I like it more every time I see it.

BeeTree- I returned back home. The dog just remained with me for 1 year as a guardian & I gave it back to the actual owner when he returned back from AbuDabi.

Krazy bout K9s- I have 4 big GSD males 3 of them are very tough boys, so I am used to tough GSDs with no problems. The question  was is he going to remember me.

To everybody- Thanks for your advises, recommendations & passing on experiences I am sure they will be very helpful.

Tarekallem
I hope it all goes well for you when you meet the Dog, It is better if you alone are there when you let him out of the Crate and it should be in your own Garden secured so he cannot escape too many people around may  make him nervous,
As it turns out you will be picking him up on my Birthday

I too think you should wait until you have him home in a secure place before opening the crate.  No way would I open a crate at the airport unless I was afraid something was terribly wrong.  So many things to go wrong there.  Can't wait for the video!

Yes GSD's never forget, and yes wait till you get him home to take him out of the crate away from noise and other people.
He should be fine...looking forward to the homecoming video too.
Best wishes with him and Happy Birthday Steve!!!!

Tarek: I bet he'll be singing hello to you from inside his crate! I  am looking forward to the reunion video. Hope it doesn't make me cry like that lion reunioun video, LOL!
Happy B-day Steve!

My friend also advised me to put the crate in the rear seat & to sit next to the crate's door end  during the trip from the airport to my place with someone else driving. he add that  during this trip I should attempt to approach him through the crate's closed door through which the dog can see, smell & remember me. This would also give me  a chance to form an idea as to the dog's reaction & current attitude.
