Sporter, there is no formula. A close linebreeding might be the best decision a breeder is able to make - but might be the worst, too.
As others stated before, you need to know almost everything about the ancestors ( health/temperament ) before even thinking about a 2/2 or 2/3.
Hardiman and Wright do tell us about the percentage, but not about the quality.

Susie - Wright and Hardiman provide the information and then it is up the breeder to provide the quality by deciding to have a mating, or, not.  This is where experience, knowledge and ethics come into play.

FACT:  the state of the breed now is due to decisons made 30 years ago

FACT: the main group moaning about the current state of the breed are people that were "in the biz" 30 years ago.

QUESTION: what the F were all the knowledgable experts doing 30 years ago?

delete all the "experienced old trolls that caused the problem and replace them with intelligent new people, while your at it burn every record of every pedigree, most a false anyway, and make the standard, i should say many different standards and the corrupt judges that have supported them over the last 30 years illegal.

a dog will only be judged by it's work, no papers, no corrupt empires, just work.

ok well i think I´ll just take acloser look at the formulas and try to figure out one for each that gives a figure including the linebreedins of the linebreedings. I´ll come back if i got something.
