(That is one reason why I don't understand how breeders can rehome dogs after a certain age of usefulness/profitability is past, thinking it is all the same for the old dog. Not so. Not so.)

Tarekallem; YES THEY DO REMEMBER BUT!!!!!!
PAST EXPERIENCE;....
All of my rescue dogs do remember me when they come back to visit or (very rarely) get returned, they are ecstatic at being "home" again...they all love me....<grin>
BUT!!!!!
I did take in a dog many years back that at first wanted to eat me and when I didn't fall for it, he was my bud....he wouldn't let anyone near me...he didn't like strangers at all....
I ended up giving him to a closed gate community for a guard dog( due to too many liabilities with him and when I did go back to see him months later, he remembered me, BUT!!! He was not going to allow me or anyone in his enclosed fence/space....
Maybe if we had taken him out of his guarding territory he would have accepted me better, BUT, we didn't, so he was "guarding his territory as he was supposed to do"...
Most dogs I would not hesitate to accept in, if you are not afraid of them, they will know...another female I have in, the wife was afraid of her, so she tried to bluff me, I took her down so to speak, and have no problem at all with her, only people that show fear, she will call their bluff,
So please be careful, don't show fear, only wisdom...
Probably not explained the best, but hopefully will help some...
Best wishes in your homecoming, Steph
