Thanks for your information on the last post. I am looking for a medium working line, and have found these three breeders to be my favorite. I live in Montana, and I have narrowed it down to these three. I am not the best at reading pedigree's. However, it seems that the three I've selected have very good reputations.

My backstory, explained better. I purchased a dog from a breeder in CO (which apparently WAS a good breeder, emphasis on the WAS). She sold me and my ex three dogs. 2/3 Died. 1 had cups disease, base narrow canine, lupus, dysplastic hips/elbows. One was born without enamal on teeth, and dysplastic hips, the third died of heart failure. I obviously learned not to rush into it. I want a male sable, to accompany my older (8 year old show line fixed).

So I have spoken with all three gals, and have expressed interest in a medium-medium high drive good with family/kids pups. Here are the three:

Black Thorn - Christine

Blackthorns Wee Bit O Whiskey x Blackthorns Aurora Borealis

I think all of them are wonderful women and really do the breed good -- just want to make the right decision for the sake of the puppy and my heart.

From what I have seen & heard on here over the years, I'd go with Christine (Blackthorn) every time, of these 3; & let her choose the puppy for me. I have nothing but admiration for her as a GSD breeder, who is open about her practices & attitudes to breeding this wonderful breed. She has a great store of knowledge. JMO - but I am saying it out of years of reading her posts & communicating with her through PDB, not from a personal friendship or any pecuniary interest ...

Yes, I'd definitely consider a pup from Christine. I have also heard many good things about Wendelin Kennels.

I've known Christine (Blackthorn) for many years. She breeds outstanding dogs, plus she's an honest and ethical breeder.

I've never heard anything bad about Wendelin Farms, or her puppies or dogs, and Christina is very knowledgeable. If I were in the market for a GSD pup, she'd be the first or second place I'd look.

Wendelin Farms is known for intense, serious, working dogs. The website indicates the kennel produces high drive dogs for "law enforcement, personal protection, SAR, top sport and of course dogs who can live with a family and be a loyal companion/protection dog. It all depends on each individual puppy/dog and their future training. We do observe and evaluate our puppies when raising and it is very important to us to match each puppy with the client's need" (quoted from Wendelin Farms website)

The pedigree looks to me like the litter will be high drive, although individual puppies will have individual temperaments, drives, and energy levels. Christina can advise on the individual puppies in the litter for your intended purposes. You indicated you wanted medium to medium-high drive. Be up-front and honest with Christina about what you want and need, and your family/other animals, so she can determine if there's a suitable puppy in the litter, and if so, pick the best puppy for you.

I know nothing about the other two breeders.

If the OP isn't looking for a high drive dog, I'm reasonably sure 'BlackthornGSD' will suggest they book a pup from another litter, should ALL the pups in this litter prove high-drive on initial Assessment. But pups in any litter can vary, and while she breeds established Working lines, I'd certainly trust her to pick out the less - shall we say 'energetic' - prospect(s).

Surprised at how any regular user of this board has not noticed Christine's (many) contributions. Latest I could see was about 5 months ago.

Hundmutter if you are referring to the OP they only joined in March this year so will not be familiar with other members.

Except for a very few, I don't know which kennel, breeder, etc. is by user name here.

I check this board every day, and posts by Blackthorn have been very few and far between.

Yes there has been a gap since she last posted, but there have been plenty of her posts over the years. And she is one of the people who do not hide who they are.

GSCat isn't new to this forum, even if the OP is - so my curiosity about not having noticed Christine's posts applies !

Plenty of people read this site before they actually join & start to post themselves, so if I had been referring to the OP they might well have seen contributions on here by Christine ? Blackthorn has always been more likely to post here than the other two breeders listed, AFAIK.
