"If you feed a raw diet with bones.....no need to tack. Commercial dog food, there's your problem....my opinion. Sarah"

This is not the case. I've known several dogs that have had bloat and torsion even on raw food.

I highly recommend tacking regardless of diet.

If you need to tack a dog to keep it alive, even with a natural diet...iot would beg the question as to whether this animal is suitable to reproduce. I have been in "this doing business" since I was 18.....I am now 66. I know of NO dogs that suffered GVD that were fed a raw diet, including Danes.

I would never tack a dog. Your gut is mobile for a reason....there is also GVD for a reason. Investigate the cause, don't fear for the symptom.

Particularly since there seem to be some indications that there is also a genetic component to whether or not a dog is susceptible to GDV. Ongoing research shows bloat definitely happens more frequently in some bloodlines /families of dogs than in others which are unrelated. I think we may find as there is more investigation and tracking of this tendency that there is more to this story than e.g. what a dog is fed on, or how much it is rested before & after eating.

Linda, i absolutely side with Sarah.
can you imagine jackal, coyote, wolf, fox with allergy to meat?
now take a look at nearest topic in regard of raw feeding and read about issues, arising upon switching food from processed to raw.
how badly must be screwed up physiology/digestive system of the carnivore/scavenger (dogs by default are those), if raw meal equal to death sentence.
even if there are possibility of passing bloat issue through genes as you say, in natural environment animal with such problem most likely will die without leaving descendants. under human care life of such animal with encouragement from veterinarian cartel will be sustained and multiply it's own problems through the breeding.
