How can someone simply "forget" that a living thing is in their car?

Texas is hot period.  If you have been in the state more than 24 hours, this is deeply ingrained into your head.  It should be a natural human instinct to check everything in the car.  How can this be ok with anyone?

Not only that, but they had a $27k grant that purchased alarms that went unused! Now, this is a crime! A memory lapse related to a change in routine is definitely not what happened here. This story is sickening to think about. I can't begin to think of a reason for how this can be called an accident. Did they regularly neglect the dogs' meals, too?

You have to be F'ing kidding me. This is just flat out WRONG,NOT even one dog, but two. Where did he think these dogs were for 30 hours? If this guy could not be responsible for the safety of them dogs, ne should NEVER be trusted with the safety of the public either. This is just sickening.

Any developments will be posted here. Can you imagine how much trouble any of us would be in if we did this our couch potatoes? Not to say an animal that is purchased with tax payer month I would guess that is a civil servant. ........"with great power comes great responsibility"

Bee, I think they had a $27,000.00 grant for the K9 unit overall...the actual heat alarms cost $695.00 on the Ray Allen website and they had two of them that they were simply too lazy to have installed.  There is no excuse for this and the officer's superiors need to be held accountable as well for gross mismanagement.  They failed to have those alarms installed and they failed to put procedures in place that would have prevented this tragedy.

Procedures in place? It is called being a self aware human with a responsibility. Don't get me wrong, those alarms should have been installed. It is a very sad world that we live in if the alarms are needed to compensate for a human to not leave their best friends in a car on a hot Texas day. -------- What was that person thinking? Oh wait, he wasn't. That is ok. We made a stupid people alarm to compensate for his lack of brain cells. Oh wait! There's more. More stupid people forgot to install the alarms. OH WAIT! THERE'S MORE (starting to sound like an infomercial). This person is responsible for the publics safety. ------- (and people wonder why we carry guns)

I think that cop needs a drug test.  It's the only thing I can think of that would make a person forget his dogs in a hot car for 30 hours.

Maybe his CO could do the same to the officer by way of correction?  Betcha he'd never forget again...  Heartbreaking that a trained officer could be this negligent and cruel.

If these a$$ holes would start getting prosecuted for KILLING a k9 COP just like any CRIMINAL ( that's what they are), then MAYBE, just maybe, another poor dog that can't open the fucHing car door and let himself out the way the two legged cop did, might be spared this torturous death!!!
