And jonrob, no, nobody could touch this bull, nor the paint horse, except me.

The bull would squash you after he stood quietly giving you a chance to get within range..then he would have worked you over with horns and mostly his big head with 2000 pounds pressing behind it into you.

The paint would grab you and bite the living crap out of you or kick you into kingdom come if you got within range.

But both performed flawlessly and never messed up in over ten years.

I thought the dogs in the video looked different from yours. They look to be pure Siberians.

Edit: THANK YOU! :D

by JonRob on 21 April 2018 - 17:04

"First of all, jonrob, the owners of the dogs in the original vid are not going to be playing ball in public where the ball could end up in the road, creating road pizza of anybody chasing the ball."

No one said anything about balls in the road. There are lots of public places nowhere near a road. And no one said anything about the owners playing ball. Balls from someone else can and do come flying out of nowhere.

"These dogs are not the property of the community, just like their children are not the property of the community."

A stable, calm, good-natured dog that refuses to bite a child has nothing to do with dogs or kids being "community property."

"So your theoretical is moot."

Nope, it's right on point. And your refusal to answer it gives me the answer, which was not the one I was hoping for. I was about to add you to my list of recommended breeders when my girlfriend (who is a lot smarter than I am) pointed out that I needed to ask that question. Good thing I did.

How the heck can a dog protect your child in public if he can't be trusted not to bite another person's child? You'd have to keep him muzzled in public and fat lot of good he'd be in a crisis then.

Sunsilver, you got it perfectly: "a dog with a REALLY REALLY stable temperament would realize it's just a kid, and kids get a pass on doing stuff like this, regardless of whether the dog knows them or not."

by joanro on 21 April 2018 - 17:04

Jonrob, that is obsurd saying that these dogs would bite a kid in public, absolutely insurd. They take them to the playground in town for crying out loud, and there are more kids there than just the family. You were talking about playing ball with the dogs.
If that is your test qualifying for your breeder list you might want to be a bit more precise in your scenario. Because if I answered that in such a way as to sound like the owners take their dogs to town and 'play ball' on the sidewalks, then the frkking hammer comes down because 'oh my god! They will get the dogs killed!' Or 'oh my god! They are going to get a child killed running out in the road after the ball!' There's no right answer.
That kind of crap...which happens on this forum all the time . instead of a vague question, why not be up front and ask how the dogs are in public with other children....not a friking dog park, because these people have their own acres at home, but the children's playground in town. Then I could have answered your direct question that the dogs are totally reliable and safe in public. Vague questions are always meant to be used for admonishing the person its directed towards.
No sweat about being put on your breeders list, because I only have one litter a year, and most people want to have a puppy at the month day hour and town they want the pup ....you know, like gong out to buy a pair of shoes...sorry, I'm not a puppy store, so I tell them to go to a breeder in Canada that has fifty liiters a year.....or one like that, just g oogle gsd puppies, they can find puppies on demand. But not from me. They'd have to wait for one from me, and people don't like to wait.

As for muzzling either of these dogs, jonrob, you are a fukking ideot!  Go take your stupid theoretical that is total fiction and shuv it !!! Mtrfkr!

Fact, you are the one that needs to be muzzled !

If your 'clients' are like you, they don't even need a dog, they need a robot. Because if they are like you, they are not very honest, and can't help but to paint every one with the same brush of chitt!

Can we take time and relax a little now.

by joanro on 21 April 2018 - 18:04

Heck no, valk...I never generalize you canucks....fact I have a right smart number of my dogs up there with you Canadians...one male that works search and rescue with RCMP. They're up there trying to make Canada great again:-)

Just one breeder I know of up there who has enough litters to allow jonrob to send his 'clients' shopping any day of the week they can buy a puppy.

If I get a call from someone who tells me jonrob referred them, I'd have to hang up on them, after I tell them to give jonrob this here...

Joanro, you still haven't answered my question:

Suppose you are out in public with one of the GSDs that let their boy take the ball away from them in the video. Ball rolls by, dog grabs it, little boy that the dog has never met before races up, smacks into the dog, and snatches the ball out of his mouth. What does the dog do?

Nothing here about dog parks, roads, etc.

Nothing about playing ball with the dogs either. Does the answer change if the owners are playing ball with the dogs? If so, why?

Sunsilver got it right away and gave a straight answer (she's generally smart and sensible).

There is nothing fictional about this--I saw it happen. And the GSD happily gave up his ball, wagged his tail, and nuzzled and licked the boy he had never met before.

Vague questions like "how is the dog with kids in public?" don't get accurate information in my experience. "Great!" they say. Then present them with that precise scenario and the answer is "Of course he would bite the kid! You can't expect a dog not to!"

So tell me Joanro: What does the dog in your video do in this very precise scenario?

Best laugh this Canuck's had all day, Valk!

Yeah, we're trying! Or some would say we're VERY trying! LOL!

Is curious to know which breeder Joan is referring to...hmmm...

by joanro on 21 April 2018 - 19:04

Jonrob, the fiction is you saying these dogs need to be muzzled in public.
Being as sunsilver is honest and smart, and you are implying that I am not honest and smart, then send your people to sunsilver for their puppies.

So playing your game; if strange kids are playing ball and the ball rolls by, these dogs are not reactive and it's not their ball game...to jump in and take some strange kids' ball would be rude, since these dogs are polite and have good manners, so they would not infringe on the strange kids game. They would not even think about biting the strange kids, even if the strange kids were clumsey and 'smacked into' these polite dogs. Why would they even think of biting the strange kids, since the strange kids are not a threat.

Now, if one of those strange kids started hammering on little 'dude' and made little 'dude' start crying, well different story. But the dogs would not bite the strange kid...they'd hunt down the parents of the kid beating up on little 'dude'. When they found the parents, (which wouldn't take long because these dogs have great tracking skills) they'd pull a gun out and shoot the fkers for raising and releasing a bully...so no need to bite!
OK? I answered your friking question...they don't bite kids! jakwad!
