here is a picture of my 8 week old (about) puppy
does he look like a normal german shepherd? dad was AKC mom was not, saw both mom and dad and they looked like normal GSD
is it normal for his ears to be like that?

also alot of people have been telling me that since the mom is not AKC that he cant be a purebred..but i saw the mom in person, she looked completely  normal maybe a little skinny (due to the puppies maybe)?

Totally fine for his ears to be like that at that age... cute pup.  I'd say GSD.

It looks normal to me. Papers aren't everything, but they do show that it's most likely that they're purebred. Can always DNA test if it bothers you. But if you are just having him as a companion, does it really matter if he's 100%? He looks like it, and ears standing aren't necessarily up by 8 weeks, can vary by months.

Well, it might make a difference if you thought you were buying a purebred GSD.  It might make a difference if you were sold / told it was a purebred GSD.

Sandra,
Cute puppy and sure does look like a GSD puppy.  Good luck with your pup.

That's true slamdunc. I was thinking in terms of value to the family, not really the idea of getting ripped off. Like I said, can always DNA test

At 8 weeks I am surprised if ears are consistently up. My younger female is the only GS I have owned with up ears at 8 weeks that were up and stayed up. More often they fonts stay up until 4+ months.

I'm confused. The dog in the picture link has standing ears.

Do you have papers on the dog? How old is it?

Once again, the dog in the picture of the link is older than 8 weeks and has standing ears. If it's 8 weeks, don't worry about ears yet.

Sandra - Could not actually access pictures on the Flickr reference - but would they be of this new puppy, or of your now eighteen-months old bitch ?  Or both ?

As people replied to the Flickr posting, there are Registered, well-bred GSDs;  and then there're those which are just Registered.

If, having had your fingers burned once, you then aquired a second dog very recently, I really would not worry about what he looks like for a few weeks yet.  His ears may not go up - at least permanently - until he's finished getting his adult teeth through.  Its a bit early to worry about his ears.  Or whether he is pure-bred;  or otherwise 'normal'.

I seriously recommend you go and buy one of the many books available about The German Shepherd Dog,  which should give you basic information about the health of your puppy, any Health Testing his breeders ought to have had done on his parents, what changes to expect at what times as he grows up, and the best ways to feed, train and care for him.

Especially if you bred this puppy yourself out of the bitch you were talking about last time;  you have bred her when she was rather young;  and frankly I feel you ought not be attempting to put more dogs into this world while still displaying quite a lack of knowledge of the breed.

Linda.
