Hard to say we were not there.  Although it is rather unlikely that a dobe would bite.  They are simply too fearful.  Hence why mine come out af Holland.  american dobes just don't seem to have it anymore.  There are some good working breeders in the US but it was unlikely this dog came from there...

Totally unacceptable-harm my dogs, regardless of circumstances, there'll be hell to pay.

I live same city, nonetheless, I can see both sides of the story, yes it was wrong that they shot/killed the dog in his own backyard, where he was supposed to protect, but also I'm sure the cops didn't know he was there and would attack when they ran thru there chasing the suspect, if for some reason the dobe did act aggressive they would have had the right to defend themselves.

Its's wrong the bad guy ran thru the dogs backyard. If the LEO thought the dog was a threat and did not want to get bit what was the LEO to do? Go back from whense he came and let the bad guy go. I don't think so. We have an expectation of safety when we are at home.  But bad things happen to good people.  So its right.

Where I come from we would send a k9 to apprehend a fleeing felon. Not worry about protecting him from a dog that was protecting his own property from a trespassing felon. As far as the officer protecting himself did he sustain any bites to validate his claim of self defense? Or was he just afraid of a barking dog? I have been through many yards with barking dogs, only was bit once on the leg as I was going back over the fence. I never saw that dog he was silent so that is why I got bit. His owner came out we got the dog to let go and I got a few stitches. But the thought never crossed my mind to shoot the dog. The rest of the dogs I have encountered I was able to back off or calm down. But I am not afraid of dogs either. It sounds like a very unfortunate situation for the dog and his owners in which someone over reacted and shot a barking dog. There was no mention of injuries to the officer so one would assume that is the case. Why didn't the dog bite the suspect when he jumped on him? I have to agree also you do not see pet dobermans that will actually bite when confronted. It is usually going to happen when you turn and run or walk away. Their usually fear biters. Being a cop is not an easy job. When your not in the situation it is sometimes hard to understand how they react in these situations.

In port harcourt city, rivers state, nigeria, police arrested a suspect in his home who had a lovely mixed-bred, took the guy away, came back for a search and afterwards shot the dog, closed the door, warned residents around to keep-away, then, left. Police brutality and cruelty's everywhere: even in your privacy. Only Angels can truely protect n save us.
