I am getting a great deal on a 7yr old male. how long can I expect for the Dog to live? Since the seller of the Dog frequents this forum no names will be mentioned.

For his age, not bad I guess if you're going to be using him for breeding. Just as a pet, maybe a little less.

Mainly just as a pet for now. I would stud him out if I had chance. I need a dog for protection. I may be moving soon so I do not want loads of puppies.

I think that that is a pretty high price for a 7 year old. There are Sch3 male for the same if not 1,500. The dog may be worth it but make sure of your invesment. If you need help locating a younger protection dog that you will get more use from I will be glad to help you any way I can. cALL (574) 606-7177 Aaron Pickard DownUnder k-9

I was recently interested in a v rated 5 year old male but his price was in the upper 5000 range he was in excellent health and gorgeous but personally I could not see paying that but then i like to have my dogs more for personal than profit so I guess you have to list the pros and cons and see what you think out weighs.

Thank you for the reply's I have not been in the market for a GSD for awhile. We just lost our 7 year old Feamale. We keep our dogs till the end. I will not do the puppy route again. Better for us to buy a titled dog, no time for dog/churches (clubs)ect.

zmeli, If you need a dog for protection then you should be looking for a protection dog,not a sport dog.Not to mention why would you be looking for a protection dog of this age? I am not even talking about the price, you seem somewhat confused as to what you want, need and are looking at. Feel free to contact me if you like and I cam maybe help point you in the right direction. Best regards, Charlie

I want a Family/protection dog. I guess a dog that will be able to interface with the family. I have a 5 yr old dauthter. A dog that can get along with other dogs. A dog that will not need to be in a box most of the time. Must be able to ride in the car and not throw up! I am surprised that so many of you have replied and need to think this over before I hand over the greenbacks! I like the Dog in question but the price/age ratio seems a little high. I have cared for the dog and fits my family perfectly, but I attempted to acquire the dog three years ago and it was sold out from under me for more money! It is sad when we see so many people motivated by money. That is why a person has to be careful when breeders want to sell their studs or bitches.

Zmeli --- please really STOP and THINK ---- just by your commentaries -- i think you are too inexperienced for a protection dog -- sorry i have to be so forward -- but i strongly think that you do not know what figuratively and literally you are asking for -- i have trained personal protection and police dogs , which are different in respects , but neverthless -- my advice is that if you want protection --- then i suggest a .357 Magnum !! --- if you mean a dog that will bark , alert , and by appearence deter -- a good GSD will / should do that / to apprehend or encounter /protect a civlian is different , very very different !! -- and please also understand .. many many Sch 3 dogs are completely incapable of protection !! -- Sch is a character test / sport of such --- it is not always real to the dog -- even the most appearing aggressive dog in Sch is just expressing a strong game of play .. not applying this to all Sch GSDs but for the most part ..most --- so the title Sch does not have meaning in that respect -- and the so called courage test -- [ my apologies to Sch people ] it's a joke compared to other dog sport's , belgium ring , french ring , mondio ring never mind the real life trheatening event -/ a guy running at a dog with a stick -please .. i train a 12 week puppy not to bother with a stick and that a stick means nothing in the environment --- nothing to do with courage , the stick just becomes irrelevent , like you were wearing a baseball cap .-- so i recc. Stop and Think
