Yeah, have to say I'm not a big fan of off-lead dogs in stores or other public places, nor of encouraging people to try doing that...it's all fun and pride until someone's leashed service dog gets nailed by someone else's off-leash dog that ISN'T as well-trained as this Sibe. Which she clearly is...though I would expect any well-trained Sibe, even without the use of a pager collar, to behave properly inside a building--having owned more than a few Siberians myself, we both know the real training challenge for them is outdoors, off-lead in an unfenced area. Wink Smile  With the focus Scarlet shows, however, I suspect she does well in that setting, too.

Really nice focus and control. Well done handler and dog! I suspect its taken a few hours and loads of patience to get to that level!

And a lot of electricity.

by hexe on 28 March 2015 - 02:03

vk4gsd, just a "pager" type collar, not a full electric one.  These collars vibrate and/or give an audible tone instead of an electrical stimulus.  They're great for deaf dogs or when working in conditions where your voice gets drowned out, too.

Yeah hex and lemme guess, the page only works when it is associated with a subsequent couple kV, escape training, why spin it. You got sumthin to hide.

Panzertoo may only be using an innocuous 'pager' collar with this one, but she's had some

not-so-good advertising videos up on here in the past, using full E collars to do similar

obedience control around shops &c, on a variety of breeds.  I don't know if she's using them

outdoors, Hexe;  she seems to have pretty good command of the GSD pack she also videos to

put on here, and they don't usually  LOOK   as though they are wearing electric collars, of any type.

vk4gsd, hunny, not my dog, not my video, so don't know why I would have anything to hide in this instance to begin with.

I do, however, own a PAGER collar, which is NOT capable of giving an electric stim, and I got it several years back when my old girls started losing their hearing. There aren't any probes or prongs or such on it, and it can only do three things: it can vibrate like the old pagers folks used to carry before cell phones became a thing; it can make an audible tone [not useful for a deaf dog, of course] that sounds like a bird's chirping; and it has an LED that will flash. That's all that can be elicited from the device I have.

If I've erred in taking the OP at their word that they're using a pager collar in this video, then so be it. Haven't seen their other videos, but the Sibe looks to be enjoying the event, and relatively laid back for the breed as well.

Hundmutter, no worries here--once I figured out how his brain works, vk4gsd has to work a lot harder than that to get under my skin. But thanks for having my back!

And FTR, I have nothing against using electric collars when they are used correctly, and humanely. Too often, however, the tool is in the wrong hands, and on the wrong dog for the wrong reasons.

Nope not a fan of off lead work in a public setting like that.  WOULD NOT go in that store with my dogs.  Bad advertising.
