Lousy photo to try to tell from, but could be a Blue.

Blue is a recessive gene. Both parents would have to be carriers for the gene if this pup is indeed a blue.

It is not a recognized colour for the German shepherd. But as people on this board can tell you, it can pop up unexpectedly even in well-bred GSD lines.

Didn't look blue to me at all....

We need to see the pedigree and then we need to see what the fur looks like if someone pushes it backwards. Is it sable?

Looks like a blue to me. My mom had one in a litter about 50 years ago. The pup looked silvery and when he was older, if he stood alone, he looked solid black. But when placed next to a black, you could see the difference.
Although, I agree, he could also be a sable. Hard to tell when they are pups.

Ok, Fantom, your mom had one 50 years ago...I had 3, 4 years ago. It was a total shock and I remember it like it was yesterday! WAY Lighter than that pup unless the video color is off. I need to see the ped and I need to see the underside of the dog's fur. Blues are super obvious at birth. There is no mistaking them.

Here you can see pics of the 3 that popped up and surprised me. http://www.allyk9.com/blue-german-shepherds.html

If the parents are black and tan, this can't be a sable.

Jenni 78, that is what I meant by a silvery sheen to them. You can see it in the one pups picture that you sent the URL for. Strange, after all these years it still sticks with me about that sheen.

Yeah, Fantom. I know what you mean but I don't see it in that video. When they're shiny, and the fur is gray, you get that silvery look.

Reliya, if I had a dollar for every dog called black and tan that was actually sable....
