Small growth slightl;y below outside of right hock joint. Anyone dog had this before? - Page 1

Recently I was bathing on of my dogs and noticed a small knobby looking growth on the outside but just below my dog's right hock joint. I can squeeze it quite hard but the dog is not bothered by it nor does it affect her running , walking, jumping, etc. Her vet gave a prescription for 7 days of 300 mg per day of simplicef to eliminate that it can be an infection from a minor wound. In 4 days no change in size, but dog remains the same ( very active, running, jumping, etc). After the antibiotics, I will ask the vet to do a fine needle aspiration to determine anything further. Anyone had this before and have any reasonable idea what it can be?

Any view points on this?

When you squeeze it, does it expel anything? Is it hard inside or soft like it contains some fluid? I would say that the vet may want to shave around it and take a tissue sample if it does not respond to treatment so far.

Sounds exactly like this. METATARSAL/METACARPAL FISTULAS. Google it. A friend has this with her Shepherd. They shaved the spot and sure enough found the bumps.

It’s an auto immune issue.

I recently found a hard lump on the inside of my boy's hind leg but otherwise at a similar level.  Several hundred quid for blood tests + X ray later, it turned out to be not the dreaded osteosarcoma tumour I was half-expecting, but an excess of overgrowth of bone due to arthritic change. He is 7 yrs.  But he wasn't showing any pain, and was running & jumping on it. I was extremely relieved, and while I can understand reluctance to investigate, I really recommend getting this checked out properly.

Metatarsal/Metacarpal fistulas are found on the dogs feet or pads not on the legs and are not hard lumps.

I beg to differ that but hey what do I know. It can also be on hocks not just pads.

The lump has not changed in size , the anti biotics did not appear to make any difference. There is no pus head or fluid feeling to the touch. It feels like a lump and it does not affect the dog’s activity or movement and she is not even bothered when I squeeze it fairly hard.
One thing I can say is that she was recently vaccinated and I did read some where that dogs body can respond to vaccination by producing Granulomas .
