On a 3 year old, the hips look basically sound -- I'd say Mild to Fair for the rating, and I bet Fair would be rating given if sent to OFA. Elbows -- I can't really guess, but they don't look "clean" to me. Normally, the circular edges are very clean and clear on good elbows.

He doesn't limp or anything, chases deer and squirrels in the woods and gets around fine.

One of his elbows was injured at about 1.5 years old when he was rough playing with my other dog on cement and he got a hygroma. Not sure if that could have had a negative impact on his elbow X-rays.

Can someone give me an example of Morgan lines and what they mean. I tried Google and didn't get very good results. Thanks

I am thinking possibly "FAIR" due to shallow left hip socket. Elbows not sure. Nan BOL though...

I can only see part of the right elbow. Not loading for me. The left elbow is bad- not good at all. Lots of damage.Yes, an elbow injury early on could certainly contribute. There are significant degenerative changes in that one. Can't see all of the other so I can't comment on the right one.

Hips are fine. If I worked at OFA I'd call them fair. But I don't...

Morgan lines are the extra lines on the femoral head, toward the neck, which occur as a result of degenerative joint disease (DJD) which is why OFA marks this box on some xrays. Some call it "medusa" referring to the jellyfish-like shape a femoral head can take on due to damage from subluxation causing it to "bang around" in the socket. I am having really slow internet issues so can't show a pic. Sorry.

If the hips were rotated perfectly (knees inward) you would see less of the lines. Still say mild, maybe fair if perfect.

Just out of curiosity, if these X-Rays were going to be sent in to the SV, is the positioning the way they like it, or should I find a new vet? I have another dog approaching 1 year I was thinking of getting prelimbed and if the results look good then sending them to the SV.
