| OK, what is the meaning of this on the back of pink papers: "a" zuerkannt, Bef. normal I know the A is normal, but what is the Zuerkannt part mean? |

HD-Zuerkannt (hip dysplasia-awarded) means that the dog is recognized posthumously for progeny whose hip quality was of at least average quality or better. He/she himself was not x-rayed and certified as hip dysplasie-free, but he/she were thought to be hip dysplasie-free because of quality of the hips of the progeny. Typically this was done in the days before the "a" stamp became a requirement. Since the early 1980's the "a" stamp program has been enforced, and you will no longer see this award indicated for dogs born after the late 1970's |

| My understanding is that it means the hips have been rated, but the actual rating (normal, fast-normal, NZ) is not known. |

| So the Bef. normal relates to the hips, or elbows? I was thinking the "a" zuerkannt related to hips, and the Bef. normal was related to elbows? Anyone know for sure? |

| B.Anderson- this relates to a 3 yr old dog currently living, who has this on the back of his pink papers, I know the part you're talking about, the post-humously awarded it. |

| For a dog that is living and you are now recieve the paper work back or is stamped on the pedigree I think it is simply stating what rate was awarded for example: The award or granting of/ awarded or granted it is found to be: _____normal_____ insert the rate. and there is a symbol stamped there from what I remember. that would be my interpretation as a lay person with limited German language skills.... You know how they say * it is lost in the translation* because if you dont have a feel or emotion for the other language then being to literal can sometimes screw you up. Perhaps some one fluent or those that have dogs with SV papers will clue you better..but thats my take. Happy weekend! Debi at the |

| Hello, "a" zuerkannt for me is an x-ray taken from an older dog, so that the exact result can't be determined due to some wastage of the articulation which occurs with age. Maybe I am wrong, as this was given to a 3-year old dog. Anyway, "zuerkannt" means "granted" without stating the exact grade. Regards, Ursula |
