Too many people don t take into account the way a puppy is raised plays a big role in how it developes, whether it is bold or fearful, shy or outgoing. Genetics is blamed far to often. Puppies that are kept in kennels with limited socialization and opportunity to venture oiut on its own is not going to have the same drives or desires to go further. yes, alot can be inherited traits, but i think more come from environmental stimulations/. Just the way i see it!

kitkat, overall quality is mostly depending on genetics, its to easy to blame all crappy dogs to upbringing

by Pirschgang on 07 July 2022 - 17:07

duke1965, how has Bordy Blendy produced in your opinion?

by duke1965 on 08 July 2022 - 09:07

pirschgang the problem today is that dogs only stand out due to the qualities of the trainer and his/her team mostly, so really depends who ends up with the pups for any fame claim afterwards, I didnot see many bordy offspring and think he really didnot breed that much, but i could be wrong there, but since my testing of dogs is/was directed for law enforcement i can say there are not many suitable dogs coming from latest generations of sportdogs, as the type of dog best suitable for sport took a different direction a while back already

Makes sense. Thanks.

@SKI Thank you. How is the rest of his temperament? Do you mind sharing who the dam was?

by gsilas on 13 July 2022 - 08:07

@Duke1965 I’m not sure what part of my reasoning you are saying is old school or the point you are trying to make. The quality of female obviously has an impact on the what is produced. Someone mentioned Dina. When you have a very nice female, you’re not not going to breed her to sub par males because it is a waste. You’re going to chose the best matches possible. If you have take a famous male, they will generally be bred to a lot of females. Some of them will be high quality and good pairings and others not so much. That is why a strong female will have a much better track record. No one has said to not look at females or that the males are more important.

by duke1965 on 17 July 2022 - 04:07

gsilas, a ton of breedings are medioker females, bred to a famous dog to help sell the pups, mostly ending up in pet homes, so that is not much of a mesurement of how a male produces, and accounting for a large part of the hundreds of offspring of any famous male, and why would non famous males be sub par, breeding is actually pretty simple, look in a male what you are wanting to improve in your female, that is in genetic quality, not training labour and fame, and the better your female, the easyer it gets, generally speaking

by gsilas on 20 July 2022 - 10:07

Duke, I disagree that the mediocre breedings tell us nothing. They might actually tell us more. When you see certain traits shine through even in mediocre breedings then you can assume they are prepotent in that male. I think those are the most important ones to consider since good or bad, they are hard to compensate for. Non one has ever said that the game of a male means he is high quality or low quality.

by duke1965 on 22 July 2022 - 00:07

gsilas, that is wishfull thinking, 99% of good dogs and good producing dogs have strong motherline, and sure , every now and then a medioker or less quality female will produce something better than herself, but most quality offspring comes from strong females, and even then, there are some famous males producing nothing or not much, which is your measurement right there
