Sorry Ruger, but every time I see the title of this thread, I read it as "Damien's lonely testicle".   LOL. Wink Smile Tongue Smile

Oh, and what’s funnier, is that while Damien’s making fun of his “bougie” show line big brother Prince🤗.... Prince reminds Damien of his “lonely” testicle !! 😲,,,,😬😝!! Lol

An ultrasound will tell if he is lonely or just has a shy friend.

Was it there at 8 weeks or whenever sold? I am guessing your experienced fiance would know enough to check that before buying. If it was there then, it likely yo-yo'd and got stuck on an "up" while the inguinal ring closed. If it was never there, or no one thought to check (the breeder should know if it was there, and should've made a note of it somewhere), then it's anyone's guess and you'll need an ultrasound.

The issue with leaving it in place is it can occasionally cause undue aggression because it is too hot and receives too much circulation. I have only seen this once, though, where removing it completely fixed the problem. In terms of cancer...that is a bit blown out of proportion. IF the dog gets testicular cancer and IF the testicle is in the abdominal cavity, obviously, that's worse than if they are external and can be removed as treatment for the cancer.

I have had a few dogs w/this issue, different breeds, and with the first I neutered at 6years, and it never caused a problem. Now that I have a better vet, on the few occasions I've sold a pup with one retained, my vet removes it and vasectomizes the good testicle, at my cost. Usually, it's kind of irritating, but it's sooo close to where it's supposed to be, just hard to feel because they can and do suck them up when you examine.

To answer your question, it's doubtful a retained testicle has anything to do with puppyish appearance. That would typically be simple genetics dictating the rate of maturity.

Western ~ “a shy friend”,,, lol 😝

Of course the fiancé checked when he picked him up,,It’s kind of a no brainer to do so~

However, it’s seemed to disappear shortly after he arrived and I’m all about those routine head to paw assessments Lol  so I noticed that it went missing early on😮,,,

Not sure it matters at this point, we aren’t breeding him and unless I’m convinced otherwise that going fishing for it is necessary and in his best interest I’m just leavin’ it be!! 😬

I’ll probably at some point have an ultra sound to satisfy my curiosity because it is still an unsolved mystery ~

I do think his puppyish appearance is a genetic thing too, yet if he is truly “lonely” like Western said, then SS made a good point about less testosterone being produced as a possible reason.

I supose it will be somewhat of a mystery for now ,,,
