Has anyone picked up a dog from Houston International Airport? This is the first dog I have imported and want to know where would I go to pick her up? Any information would be of assistance.

Call the airline that your dog is flying on.  They will be able to tell you as it may vary.

You can with that information may be able to call the airport and find that location on the airport grounds.

Do you need a Broker to get your dog cleared through Customs or do you have an Customs office locally that you can do it yourself.

Get a broker, its WAY easier than doing it yourself, now that I got a Broker to bring in one, Ill never do it myself again. So stress free!

When you go inside, make sure you have a leash, adjustable collar/harness, a bottle of water, small bowl, paper towels/napkins, hand sanitizer, some plastic bags, and a medium-sized towel with you. And your ID, credit card, cash, change, and a COPY of all the paperwork/emails/photographs, etc. (notarized or certified as appropriate). Additional bath towels outside in your vehicle.

unless their policies have changed, they only accept cash for the handling fee. You will need to go to the desk at Lufthansa or whatever airline, get a copy of your paperwork, take it to cusoms, clear the dog there, then back to the airlines to retrieve your dog.

When flying with Lufthansa into Huston do you pick up the dog in the cargo area or in the terminal itself.

Different airports and the time of arrival may make a difference as well as different airlines have their own pick up site.

You need to check with the Cargo of the Airlines that your dog is coming in with...The last dog I brought in...at the Cargo they told me they no longer accepted Cash...that they ONLY accepted a Money Order...Check with them...
Most of the time the Airlines will e-mail you information on your dog and what you need to do and where you need to go to pick up your dog...
I ALWAYS contact the Cargo/Airlines and talk to someone too...I think you also need to verify that YOU will be picking up the dog...
And by the way...If Your name is on the paperwork then YOU need to pick up the dog...NOT anyone else...

Houston is simple! I've done it many times, the last time being about 4 months ago. I've never needed a broker.

The shipper will call you, confirm that you will be picking up the dog. They will give you the airline, airbill, date and time of arrival. Make sure you write down all the information, a phone number and the address.

Call the day of the flight to make sure the dog is on the plane and the flight is on time.

It usually takes a half hour after landing for your dog and its paperwork to arrive at the cargo terminal.

Have cash on hand, I don't remember how much but the fee at the cargo terminal is $50 or $75, don't remember which.

When you arrive at the cargo terminal, announce yourself, your dog has already arrived, the worker want to see your driver's license and will give you a bunch of papers, if not take a seat, the few minutes will feel like hours.

Get the papers and proceed to the customs office, it is close by, the address is 19581 Lee Rd, Humble, TX 77338, walk in, take a right down the hall. At the end of the hall, there will be a door and a window, and a doorbell, ring it. An officer will come to the window, give the officer the paperwork and your driver's license. He/she will disappear for what seems like forever. I usually say something about being so happy our pet has finally arrived... When they're done processing, they will call you. Pick up the papers and return to the shipping cargo office.

Give the papers to the worker at shipping cargo, you will be asked to step thru a door, and a worker will find your crate and dog. Back your SUV, VAN or TRUCK to the doc and they will help you load it up.

Hope this helps.

Make sure the shipping papers use the same address that's on your driver's license.

The red x is Lufstansa.
The address of customs and the actual location are different so its a bit confusing.

Be careful making the left onto Lee road, its a narrow road and they drive like Indy racers!

I have the crate loaded with the door towards the front of the car. As soon as its loaded they want you to clear the cargo bay door, so I drive to a quiet part of the area, there's a little bit of grass along the bushes.
Once stopped, I get into the suv thru the back door, and shut it behind me, then offer the dog a few pieces of meat, open the crate door and offer a few more pieces. The collar and leash the dog and offer a bit more meat. We get out of the suv and walk along the drive, where they can pee. Then offer water before loading it back in the crate.
Don't forget a strong pair of siccisors, pocket knife or wire cutters.. the zip ties are hard to break.
Make sure the collar will not slip off the dog or puppy's head. Last time I picked up a dog, a man's dog escaped and was frighted. I managed to use some of the extra meat to coax it back and we were able to catch it...thank God.

Sorry if its too much information. The first time I picked up a dog it was super confusing and I didn't have what I needed. Hope this makes it extras easy for you.
