Thankfully I've never come across it but people are messed up and I am sure it exists.

Yes we had a woman here who got a puppy through us, from a person we co-own dogs with. She has it. At the point we didn't see what was going on, but by the time we went to take the pup back we knew she put soap in the eyes of her horse to keep them infected. Killed both her older dogs with her father's heart pills and this pup she got (for a low fee because it's paw had been broken in the litter) she re-broke his paw and made it a open wound she kept open and made sure it got infected.

A friend and I were discussing this and she knows a breeder in Michigan who will constanly put dogs down
and tell the vet a lie just to get him to put it down ,she'll buy puppies have them for a while then if she don't like them put them down ,come to find out she was in a mental intiution for same thing but with a
baby. So it does tranfer over to pets .....

Yes it sure does, this woman also has two daughters, 10 years age difference. The oldest was taken away by child protective services, but the youngest one is still with her (at least, she was the last time we had contact with this person, a few years back) this kid also "fell of the stairs" and broke her leg, or the weirdest story she told; the girl couldn't ride the horse because of it's infected eyes, and so she played with a stickhorse. She fell over the stickhorse and broke her arm :S Coincidentally we had a puppy buyer working at child protective services in the litter we had then. He said they couldn't do anything about it because we couldn't prove it was her hand.

Blitzen,
Care to share? so maybe when a pup buyer tells a story it might ring a bell or send a red flag.

Sorry I can't. It a very specific issue and a GSD owner who could recognize herself here if I got detailed. Suffice to say the dog got everything she thought she had and more.

I also know a Michigan breeder who does this. She also will put down any puppy she gets back from a past buyer for no reason. She lies about everything just to put down a dog she doesn't want to feed, doesn't like or can't use for breeding or simply doesn't 'like' the dog. If you call her on this she attacks you like you are in the wrong. She breeds her females on every heat, from the 1st heat on until very old or doesn't produce enough pups for her.  She is nothing more than a puppy mill. She is a breeder to avoid at all costs!

I know a breeder also who has had many dogs die from "accidents" or just dissappeared with no explanation.  Of course this breeder believes that they are the victim of everything and that their life has been terribly unfair.  It's not about the dogs, it's about how the pity and attention they can get from other people.

Euroshepherd,
You are so right and that is why they do it for the attention from doctors ,nurses, vets, and other people, but it is also about the poor victims of this unstable mentallity.

This person does the same thing.  She has dogs that she has "retired" who are now dead or "Disappeared" . She has 2 dogs retired that are still breeding. The only reason is MONEY. Both are older dogs too. She is a sorry excuse for a breeder let along a human .

I'm not at all sure that what you are describing is Munchhausens-by-proxy.  IMO I think other cases on thread may very well be;   but it sounds to me like your example is just plain  "evil greedy puppy farmer syndrome"  ???

Hundmutter,
Now thats a syndrome all by its self, and I'm sure in that "evil greedy puppy farmer syndrome" there still might be some sign's of munchhausen-by-proxy .

Well there sometimes might be (similarities /overlap), but while I'd have some sympathy with anyone with a genuine mental health problem, I have not got a lot with people who simply dispose of inconvenient dogs.
Whether or not they then admit / claim they are ill.  No details in story of 2nd Michigan breeder to indicate actual
illness or disability in the dogs which are put down or "disappeared"; or physical abuse of children in family;  that would seem to set this case apart ?
I'm assuming - maybe wrongly if its the same person both times - that while there's an account of some law trouble over a baby (death?) with the first one, there is nothing else known on the second.

I don't know what her problems is. I have just learned that she plans to "put down" her 1 female who just had puppies on the 8th because she 'says' the dog bit someone. Which is questionable as the dog has never left the property since the day she got there. She does have Muchausen as well as a few other things wrong.
