One could argue the 'DDR' bitch is somewhat over an ideal weight.

by ValK on 17 December 2019 - 12:12

Linda, so what is ideal weight?
something which looks like this 2.5 y.o. malinoish type?

Far to lean for my liking unless she is in training for obidience. At first glance I thought about 11 months. And at 2 and a half imo should be at least 2 kilo heaver. My dogs will always be lean in obidience training but by 2 and a half they would be twice the bitch she is

yogidog
lean?
sure, some people have perverted taste but in that case why do not stick to an already existing lean breeds instead of screwing up GSD.
smh.

Well it always gets me that people talking about Show dogs say how big they are allowed to get, then when presented with a comparison pic like this, that goes out the window and they start going on about the larger heads, and bone of working lines. Yes she has a more solid looking head, but both have heads within the acceptable range for females / secondary sex characteristics, and I think probably an allowance should be made for age there, as well as 'type'/sub-division.

Having said all that, and again just on the strength of this one photo (always dangerous !), yes I do think the working bitch should be a couple of kilos lighter, on an all-over body basis.

Can't see what you posted ValK but I don't really need to look at any of those skinny Mali pix to make a judgement about GSDs;  have seen enough GSDs of all sorts to be sure what I am looking at, without comparing apples to oranges. ;-)

Afterthought: perhaps someone should have lined up a third bitch with these two - an ASL type !

This is not the pic I was expecting; but yes this is almost certainly a Mali x GSD, and pretty light, both in weight and condition too. Not a dog I would want @ my place.
