Newsflash: the German Shepherd Dog as it once was with usefullness and good health has been dead for a long time. Lost to the show ring it now resides with those other poor and now useless breeds that once upon a time were fit for real work. Forget it, let it go to the old crazy ladies that smell like dog hair and live in homes with gobs of their precious little broken down broken back, and broken hip prancers. Move on to Malinois if you do work. RIP real GSD - you were glorious once upon a time.

So sad...so sad.

*insert eye roll here*

There's more work in the world than bite work

@pfortnerhaus: i thought this thred was about American showdogs ?

Whatever one thinks about the GSDs in 'your' video ^^ (or, indeed, the manufacture of the video itself), those loose hocked examples are at a UK show ... they are not ASL dogs.

Watched the Westminster clip for a bit.

The top sport dig - Irish setter, no not gsp, field lab, springer...nope, the saddest, most laughable, least worked buffoon breed of all the sport world.

The top hound - the Elkhound, the least goto breed on the planet to hound anything.

The top herder - neither of the worlds super breeds for herding, the border collie, the kelpie or even the rustic ACD. Nope an ASL, the most not used herding dog on the planet.

I stopped watching at Elkhound, couldn't take it.

Westminster with its gala venue is alt reality.

Don't believe me tho, let's assume the judges are correct. How many here would put rumour up as foundation stock to start a joint US, German, Dutch... breed improvement project to improve the gsd. That's what she now represents, something all breeders around the world striving for excellence should aspire to for the gsd.

Westminster is also more widely a public educator on what the lay people should look to when wanting to see the best of the best, this is what they should see?

This thread is longer than all the combined threads discussing the performance of all the bsp, wusv winners, and what is the content? Not a word on performance, structure, character.... Lots of talk about how peoples dogs are related to her, what a great victory, she looks like a male and has big bone, looks drivey...that's it.

Please explain objectively why and how she is the ultimate representative of the breed cos nobody here ever mentioned her as such before the show.

I would.

I would absolutely outcross into this female. When you look into our bloodline, you will find plenty of Showline dogs in there. All you need is solid nerves, good temperament and drives, nothing over the top. The dog just has to be solid. You don't need monster grips, monster drives. All you need is a solid, medium drive dog to outcross into showlines with a good working line.

She is all that. She's got super food drives, she's got confidence, she's got a super temperament. I've watche every video available and Kents dogs have drive and even intensity.

Her structure and coat is amazing and he uses very little product in them.

Rumor is the type of Showline female I'm looking for. And I'm not going off the pedigree, i'm merely going off of the dog itself here.

" Solid nerves, good temperament and drives " - based on what ???

Only because she isn't afraid of the ring, or did you meet her?

I have met Rumor and she has a very good temperament.

by vk4gsd on 19 February 2017 - 22:02

how has character and temperament been objectively tested in terms of holding her up as the top representative of the breed?

pfortnerhaus

by pfortnerhaus on 20 February 2017 - 01:02

Oh man...where to begin...

First of all @Xeph - No one ever said work had to mean bite work. you know they are herding dogs, right? Learn to read and not roll your eyes like a Personal insult removed. I have no respect for you.

Secondly @Hundmutter - I think American whatever line German Shepherd are poo. Not sorry. They suck and should be destroyed.

@vk4gsd - You get it. Thumbs up to you for being a thinker. Man I laughed about the Irish Setter and Elkhound.

@roughstockkennel - what you mean "you met her"? What, you go out on a date? There are temperament and charachter tests that have been around for ages.

This is the same old crap that's been going on for ages. People too emotionally involved in the dog to recognize charachter, temperament, and true original working capability.

Please ming your attitude and responses, no need for rudeness to other members. mrdarcy (mod)

If you can't see her drives in any of the videos, if you can't see the confidence in that dog, or her temperament, than maybe ya'll are missing something or so blinded that you can't or purposely don't want to see it.

There are numerous videos out there about her and her breeder. It's all there, right in front of you. Rumor is absolutely breedworth and a super representation for the American Showline. And yes, I once had the pleasure of meeting and watching her with my own eyes.
