Is anybody able to advise how herding titles are gained in Germany. If a dog has a herding title how is it judged at the sieger show, particularly in qualifying. I apologise to those people that think that I post to much but this board is the only way that some of us can obtain information. Regards Freundhund

Freundhund, you don't post too much, and when you do, your questions and comments are intelligent and informative! You and other Australians are also educating the rest of us about the GSD in Australia!

Freundhund, I am new to this site too. But I know Marion Fuller in Germany. She is very into herding, and a wonderful person. Her website is www.kirschental.de I am sure she could help you. I am an Australian living in the United States.

The herding title is equal to a SchH title. However, a dog with a HGH only will not be awarded with VA. More on herding you can view on www.sheep-herding.com Ulf Kintzel shepherd

Firstly to Fokulfe do you need vegemite, the cricket scores, the World Cup Rugby Union scores, or what. Thanks for the website details. Ulf German Shepherds do not yet compete in Sheepherding trials here as yet due to breed prejudice. Sheepherding trials here involve the handler drawing three(3) sheep only. The sheep are released into a paddock(field) the dog is sent out to bring them back to the handler down an imaginery straight line, the sheep are then worked around an obstacle course, ie to pieces of fence, through a race, over a bridge and finally in to a pen. There is a time limit of 10minutes and various rules that I havn't gone into. It is very different to the type of herding you do. The main dogs that compete here are border collies. The type of herding you appear to do is what we do only in drought in Australia where people take the sheep or cattle out on the road alongside some of our roads are pieces of land which are referred to as either long paddocks or stock routes. The dogs used for this tends to be the Australian Kelpie. Thankyou also for explaining that the dogs need to have the SchH titles as well for the showring as I had gained a wrong impression that they could just have a herding title without the SchH title. Many thanks indeed, if anyone else has information I would still be grateful to receive it. Regards Freundhund

The HGH title qualifies as a performance title for everything except a VA rating in conformation at a Sieger Show. A HGH dog may compete in the working classes and in a breed survey wihout having a SchH title. Furthermore, a dog with a HGH is not required to have an AD for the körung. Louise M. <> No, that would be incorrect. I see Louise clarified this. Just want to make perfectly clear that the HGH title is equal to a SchH tile in all aspects but one: HGH titled dogs are no awarded a VA rating. Other than that it's equal. Ulf

I aman Australian living 1/2 in Vanuatu and the other 1/2 in Australia, Brisbane. I find that your messages are great because while im not in Australia it is great to know what is happening. Your messages are also good because they don't bore people which is important. Regards, Aruba
