The Czech border patrol dogs' foundation stock was DDR. So before the mixing with wgwl, the zps dogs are DDR.

The sell job on the DDR dogs is phenomenal. There is the legend from the not too distant past which leads to the idea of exclusivity. The dark coats, including the bi-color coat is the new signature of status. The "big bone and big head" makes the point that yes, size does matter when it comes to the sell job. The PPD fad is going gangbusters, especially since everyone knows what they "like" in a dog can't be measured with tests and titles. Of course, whatever is being DDR "liked" screams out that these folks are the possessors of special tastes and their dogs are just as discerning as they are.

Living life vicariously through one's dog is rampant, and here to stay.

You guys are making me think Bosco is fat. Hm. He probably isn't. I worry too much. I'll take a photo of him today standing, sitting, and lying down.

Z PS was founded in 1955 , during that time there was no "real" split West/East German Dogs ( I guess during that time home bred Czech German Shepherd Dogs, later on even combined with wolves have been way more influental ).
DDR started to close the border in the early fifties, but up to the sixties people ( and dogs ) were able to cross the border. The last meuse, Berlin, was closed in 1961 when the "wall" was built, not earlier, in 1960 almost 200 000 people left East Germany ...

When Jiri Novotny became responsible for z PS ( 1980/81 ), he imported what we would call today "sport dogs", not at all active "border patrol dogs", but trained, titled, breed surveyed dogs -

makes a lot of sense to me: I guess he realized pretty fast that the "original" z PS dogs were no fun, not trainable, not social...

J.N. was a "sport" handler, he grew up with the titled and breed surveyed dogs of his father ( z Jirkova dvora ), and he titled more dogs than a lot of people will ever touch in their whole life...he knew the difference between an aggressive, unsocial dog and a dog, willing to work for its handler.

All you said is true, Susie. But look at the number of DDR dogs in the older ped of zps dogs. I have dogs I imported as puppies almost fifteen years ago from j pokorny zps , and the pedigrees are chock full of DDR registered dogs.
The last pup I imported seven years ago from j novotny, half is wgwl.

That's exactly what I was demonstrating.

How come after every post I make, it says 'wait a few minutes before posting' ? An hour later I can maybe post, but not able to respond in any kind of conversation. Not complaining, I don't need to post, just passing time while it's rainy outside.

by beetree on 03 February 2017 - 19:02

Joan, it is part of this site. It locks you from posting temporarily if you make a certain number of posts in a short time. Part of the anti spammer programming added, and I was told, not likely to change.

It isn't just you! LOL
