Regarding the video .. excellent in commentary , a good presentation overall .

A good video but lacking a bit in some respects . On the subject of environment discussing / proofing , the dog heeling vs the dog heeling when a cat runs out in front. That is , as I write , comparing apples to oranges and does not mean that the dog is necessarily disobedient and does not know the heel. That is inadequate , insufficient, foolish and faulty teaching .
Canines are " CONTEXT SPECIFIC " learners. [ Situational learners that is] . Please remember they cognitively are not humans . They don't see and respond to the world as a human does either. In the dog's mind heeling , at Walmart is different than heeling on a field. They afre situational in learning such that learning to heel in one place is that . Learning to heel in another place is that . They are not one in the same. So heeling in the orescence of a cat is not the same as heeling with no cat. The expectation of leaving a cat alone or ignoring a cat is a different behaviorally. So the expectation of this behavior , 'heeling and leaving the cat alone ' , rightly so needs to be taught to the dog.
On that note if we haven't taught this specific lesson and expectation to the dog, then why are we even proofing it ? That is totally unfair to the dog. And ... what i might add : to coorect a dog without having taught it what we should have is direly unfair , and if intensified I would put forth to you ... abusive.
BTW there is no positive without a negative. How could positive exist if neither did negative. Negative can also have elements of being positive. i.e a red light is positive , yet we have to stop , something we don't like to do , a negative. positive can have elements of negative i.e lightly popping the leash/leather collar . The popping is negative ,yet it can prevent the dog to pay attention and preventit from walking into traffic , a positive .
The fact of the matter is that people mis use words conceptually. In simplicity , regarding a child or a dog , once the lesson is taught there comes a time when there may be rebutle or protest and one just has to discipline in order for cooperation . Either kindly or not so kindly. So how and when to use a postive- negative , a positive -positive , a negative -postive or a negative -negative tact, that is the art and the choice . in the dog world we germ this , training... but in essence this is no dofferent than simply teaching and parenting !
Why o' why do we make the dog world so hard ?
