The county HAS to have all the rabies info. That does not vary. The whole reason you get a rabies certificate and number is to register with the county. SOMEONE has the info. You just haven't found it yet.

Regarding rabies w/out thimerosol(sp): IMRAB1TF and IMRAB3TF are free of it.

Again, you're totally misunderstanding what I am saying about titers. NO ONE accepts them IN LIEU of rabies shots for legal purposes. They are merely for your OWN purposes and potentially to show your vet there is no reason to start over.

The county would have the info if the dog was vaccinated through a vet or clinic. But if the prior owner bought the shot online, which i think you can do, and never licensed the dog...then there's no trail.
Yes, those are the vaccines I'm looking for, but not everyone carries them. So I'm still having to try different vets. The clinics (like the ones held at Petco) couldn't get the mercury-free.
I know the county won't take a titer in lieu of the shot, but it may be my last hope for getting her the 3-yr (weeks late), if a titer shows she still has antibodies & the vet agrees to provide it. I'm hoping they'll just agree to give it a few weeks late.

I've never heard of anyone giving a rabies shot outside of a vet because they don't count for anything, ever, anywhere.

If you have no proof of anything, how will they even know she's "late"?

Vox unless the dog lived out of this state  the owner could not get the vaccine.  There is a no Ship order on it for this state. So what state did your friend live.

If this state the the county that he lived in that AC should have records.

If you want to avoid late fees and you have to start over then call her by a different name thus you have a different dog no late fees

To the best of my knowledge, no State recognizes owner-administered rabies vaccination as valid for the purpose of licensing nor in the event of a dog bite.

Thanks for the info; maybe she didn't have one after all. Yes, this was here in CA, though I guess it's possible someone had her outside of CA before that. As for why my county knows she's late: I licensed her last year so had to get the 1-yr. Now I have to just hope I can slide her in with the 3-yr, and they don't tell me she needs another next yr. Above all, I just don't want to add to her vaccine burden. She's already super excitable, and who knows what behavioral issues/immune issues can go with the rabies shot.

I'm in the minority here, I'm sure, but frankly, IMO if getting a booster vaccination is sufficient to mess up an animal's reproductive process, I wouldn't consider that animal to have a very robust constitution in the first place, and thus wouldn't consider it to be worthy of being used for breeding.

I feel the same way about having to feed specialized diets. Is it any wonder we have so many food allergies, skin problems, etc., in not just the breed but in dogs in general? I'm not saying that such dogs should be destroyed, but they sure as hell shouldn't be breeding stock.

I don't know that it would have any big effect on her immune system. She's strong, healthy, in great health...I want to keep her that way. I feel like there's not enough known about the effects of vaccines.

by hexe on 16 February 2018 - 08:02

vox, we've been vaccinating dogs against rabies for more than a century now--if we don't know enough about the effects of that vaccine by now, we'll never know. It's a killed vaccine, so it's not like you'll be dealing with any viral shedding.

I'd get her vaccinated ASAP, and cross the bridge as to whether you'll have to booster it again next year when you come to it. Every day you wait makes it less likely you'll be able to get the 3 year certification.

Reardon

Any time I have vaccinated a bitch at regular due dates, which happened to coincide with their cycles (or close to them), it has caused issues with either an early cycle, an abruptly quick cycle, or no litter resulting from a breeding, after being vaccinated. This has happened with bitches who have otherwise produced perfectly healthy litters prior to this; and using experienced, proven studs. I really find it hard to believe that this is a coincidental occurrence.
This has caused so much stress, especially for 3 entire full waiting lists of eager customers waiting for a pup...
Unfortunately, as someone else stated, there is not enough investigation or research being put into the correlation of these vaccinations and issues with infertility/issues producing a litter.
I understand that there are state laws that everyone must abide by, but I myself (lesson learned the hard way) have completely stopped vaccinating within a time-frame that may be detrimental to the successful production of a litter.
