I think you are BOTH right; the UK politicians have no more better got their act together than Trump, TBH, but on both sides of the Pond we have problems with the news media. Concern about humanity and its problems and real investigative journalism have gradually given way over the last couple of decades to the interests of news corporations' wealthy proprietors, more concerned with self-enrichment and aggrandisement than with the true interests of their readers & listeners.  Trump was fed plenty of information. He choose to ignore it. So what are you talking about? There has been lots of reporting in the last 2 days how Trump ignored his daily intelligence reports on this virus. We are talking about a President that does not believe in science so why would he pay attention. As a matter FACT he didn't even begin to take it seriously until his precious stock market forced him to. Where was I, you say. I tend to not post here any longer because I tend to not come here much anymore, lets just say I have been blamed in the past for running people off this site so I tend to stay away as much as possible. Usually it takes multiple emails from admins to get me to show up. But the main reason I made this post in the first place was constantly reading on social media how people were not listening and still believing the liar in chief. Then I went out grocery shopping on the day I wrote this to hear most of the people out there parroting what the liar in chief and Faux snooze was saying.

I have never said or thought we are all going to die - DRAMA MUCH? I thought and still do that a lot of people weren't taking this seriously and most of that was coming from our liar in chief.

No big deal, it will disappear, when the President says these things it is incumbent on him to warn us and listen and read his daily intelligence briefings not so much on the media. He ignored his intelligence reports. The media didn't get those reports, the liar in chief did. And then he proceeded to tell the people, it was no big deal, it would go away. While yes the media was already sounding the alarm only to have the liar in chief come on national TV and continue to lie about this. Continiuing to deny it would ever really hurt America.

I didn't show a form of hysteria, I was pissed because our liar in chief was herding his followers down a rabbit hole. I still am not panicked by this virus, I think people have been lied to by our President and not the media. No matter how you try and pretend to know my feelings, you don't so please stop your non-sense. I am not here trying to tell you or shame you in the least but by your own words that is what you are trying to do to me. BTW, it isn't my job to warn this board about the virus, I warned my loved ones about what I was reading, I was the first person at work to talk about it and was more or less told no big deal, it wouldn't come to America and then it did.

One more thing about my hysteria as you call it, I am still going to work everyday and have not panic bought a single thing so WTF is your problem? Can you say the same thing? Did you stock up on anything? Did you go buy more guns and ammo?

I can most certainly believe this.

And I will say some deserved it. When you attack admin and be a pain in the ass to most members, racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic then you should be removed by whatever means necessary. This isn't the place (a dog forum) to vent your racist, sexist, homophobic and xenophobic comments nor is it a place to to totally disrespect the admin, who BTW are volunteers. Because believe it or not, it was those Americans (for the most part) that drove away all the foreign dog owners with way more knowledge than most people here. Believe it or not.

Do you have an issue with that?

Also, to clarify my position a little clearer maybe the media that ignored this was places like Faux news and the like. Because the main stream media reported on it long long before Faux and its friends did.

And to suggest that I am hysterical is in fact hysterical.

"I can most certainly believe this." How can you believe this? Unless you know all the details of what even happened here? I haven't attacked you, I have attacked your assertion this is the medias fault. It isn't even Trumps fault what is his fault is his response or lack of.

So, are you now calling what the media is doing now (reporting on the details) hysteria?

Keep uttering those liberal platitudes GSD.

Where else can you go in as butterflies, and come out as caterpillars?

Fact: Covid-19/SARS-Covid-19/SARS-CoV-2 whatever you chose to call it, it's here and is concerning because it is a novel coronavirus, NOT the flu. A novel, never before seen virus means there is no real way to test for it, no vaccine against it (even the flu vaccine is not 100%), no cure yet (again, things are rapidly changing, and there is a test, just not enough of them after the first version which had a high error rate).  There was a test for it out of Germany that WHO has been using around the world and it was validated but the Trump administration did not want to use it and tasked CDC to come up with their own.  I know some of the reasons given by Trump, and Co., it wasn't tested by the FDA, etc., however, Germany has very stringent guidelines, more so than FDA (at least last I knew).  I have friends who are firefighters, medics, RNs, Physicians and none of them could get PPEs (Personal Protective Equipment) to work with sick people and couldn't get patients or themselves tested.  We are finally gearing up all available laboratories with guidelines and the equipment to process the limited number of test kits (more test kits are becoming available, but not enough).  Testing is crucial to slowing epidemics. First, it lets public health officials identify infected/contagious people and subsequently isolate them. Second, they can trace that infected/contagious person’s recent contacts to make sure those people aren’t sick and to get them into quarantine as well. It’s one of the best tools we have for an outbreak like this and allowing the CDC to track cell phones similarly to South Korea, which would help immensely; unfortunately, it goes against much of what this country stands for, privacy and independence, however it is proving very valuable in containing the virus in Israel.

Yes, Trump screwed up by firing/disbanding the pandemic response team in 2018.  He and his administration were given warnings about a possible pandemic in the making as far back as 12/2019 and did not become proactive and create a pandemic response team or task CDC to track it.  However, it is not just Trump who set the stage for this pandemic.  The Trump Administration has become the third White House in a row to downgrade or eliminate the senior White House personnel tasked with tracking disease and bioterrorism threats. Bush Jr.  all but elimiinated the personnel and Obama downgraded the office and only when the Ebola epidemic sprang up in 2014 did he appoint “Ebola Czar” Ron Klain. National Security Advisor Susan Rice later institutionalized the office in 2015, calling it the Directorate for Global Health and Security and Biodefense.  The office continued to function during the first year and a half of the Trump Administration on the recommendation of White House Homeland Security Advisor Thomas P. Bossert, a vocal advocate for a comprehensive biodefense strategy against deadly pandemics. Bossert left when Bolton took charge in April 2018, and the health professional heading the team, Rear Adm. Timothy Ziemer, abruptly left his post in May. In April 2018, Bolton fired Tom Bossert, then the homeland security adviser, who had called for a comprehensive biodefense strategy for combating pandemics and biological attacks.  Then, Bolton fired the head of pandemic response, Rear Adm. Timothy Ziemer, and his global health security team. The team, the Directorate for Global Health Security and Biodefense, was never replaced.  Trump did not help matters when he tweeted that Covid-19 was like the common flu and a democratic hoax.  Trump said during a press conference that, based on nothing more than an admitted “hunch,” the death rate of the disease is much lower than public health officials projected.  Trump did create a task force and put people with the knowledge needed on the task force, such as Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Deborah Birx. Unfortunately, this is a little late but better than nothing.  Pence was placed in charge, and he has NO experience with something like this, let's hope he listens to his experts.

Now onto China's part in this pandemic, we know by past behaviors, the Chinese government probably kept much information from the rest of the world for as long as they could, then what information was released was most likely downplayed and inaccurate.  At every step, China blocked information sharing, including by delaying turning over the virus genome to the World Health Organization until January after the disease had been tearing through Chinese communities for months. Because China refused to share information, the rest of the world was behind in understanding this disease, understanding that would have aided testing, vaccination creation, effective treatment, and creating a cure.  Keep in mind; Trump initially praised China for its handling of the outbreak and its sharing of information even though they were not sharing.  Of course, Trump has changed course and blames China for its 'Chinese Virus" which is not helpful (which demonizes people of Chinese origin and does not follow the standard of naming viruses for their origin like Ebola Zaire, Marburg Hemorrhagic Fever, if he did it would something like Wuhan Sars-Covid-19 or some other variation).

The Trump administration has recently taken steps to combat criticisms about its slow response to the coronavirus, with Trump giving a televised Oval Office address and declaring a national emergency. But experts say the damage has been done. The federal government is playing catch-up, as thousands of new cases of coronavirus are confirmed, and the death toll steadily increases every day.  Unfortunately, the response has been slow and not well focused.  After ships and airplanes landed from China and other countries with the outbreak, testing kits were not available, and many were released with the admonition to self-isolate and no public health offical followed up to make sure they were.  Then when the virus was already spreading in the US, was a travel ban enacted and testing of incoming done rather than quarantining them and testing those already here in the country showing symptoms since those were the people spreading the virus.  Trump resisted making the response to the epidemic a priority for as long as he could, refusing briefings, downplaying the problem, and wasting precious time. He has failed to properly empower his subordinates and refused to trust the information they provided him, often offering up unsubstantiated claims and figures from cable television such as FOX NEWS and other biased unscientific sources instead.

Testing is where the failures of this administration show up. To date, the US has tested only a fraction of our citizens when compared to much smaller countries (who used the WHO validated test and laboratory processing protocols as well as tasking all laboratories which the equipment and providing equipment to those labs who needed it to process the tests). According to the Covid Tracking Project, a few weeks after the first community transmission within the US, the country has tested more than 16,000 people as of March 13. By comparison, South Korea had tested more than 66,000 people within a week of its first case of community transmission. South Korea also instituted a form of martial law where they were tracking the cell phones of those infected and alerting owners of cell phones that pinged in the transmission zone/hot zone around that infected person advising them to get tested within 24 hours and to self-isolate, South Korea was active in making sure it's physical distancing and self-isolation was enforced.  Now Trump and Republicans are still forging ahead with attempts to repeal Obama Care, against expanding Medicaid, kicking people and families off government assistance such as food stamps, refusing to repeal the work requirement for welfare, continuing with the "public charge" rule which effectively discourages immigrants from seeking public services such as health care.  We know that public health care is paramount to combating this disease, as are healthy meals that strengthen the immune system to fight off infections and viruses.

At this point, all we can do is do our part.  No hoarding, check on your vulnerable neighbors and see if they need anything.  Physical distancing, hand washing, not wearing outside shoes into the home (take them off outside), if you have a vulnerable person, take your clothes off in the garage or laundry or mudroom with a door that closes and is isolated from the rest of the house and not near any air handling equipment, put them on a hanger if you were not by a lot of people or put them in the washer to be washed, wash yourself up with soap and water go into another room and change into your in-home clothes.  Take off your in-home clothes and put on your outside clothes if they were on a hanger or if you wear your in-home clothes outside, make sure you take them off and follow the above protocol.  Have sanitizer in your purse or carry it with you somehow.  When you leave the store or are done with fueling up, sanitize your hands before reaching for that vehicle door handle (no sense contaminating your vehicle), if you have a spray to disinfect your bags from the store (this is where reusable bags are handly, you can decontaminate them in the same place you change out of your outside clothes), make sure to get plenty of sleep, take your vitamins/supplements, and let's work together rather than blame or disregard the seriousness of this pandemic, and find those happy moments to cherish and nurture our community spirit.  😄
