I can see where it would be interesting to know the individual ratings. personally, when I looked at the xrays, I thought the female was about as good as it gets but I'm not expert by any means. I can see the male is very good also, I just don't see where the female is not every bit as good.

maybe somebody can explain the difference.

the bottom line is though, an OFA pass rating means that in their opinion there is no evidence of HD.

Rik, one thing the OFA puts a lot of value on is how much of the ball joint is covered by the socket. The male has slightly better coverage than the female, though the female's hip joints are slightly tighter (ball and socket fit more closely together.)

I wonder how accurate this is, because the coverage often depends on the positioning of the legs for the x-ray. Coverage of the joint is less if the knees aren't turned in (legs slightly splayed.)

thanks SS. looking back I see that the socket on the male is a bit past the "line" (not sure what that line is called, just always assumed it's where the ball sealed, but we all know what comes from assuming.

also looking closer at the knee joint it does look as if it is not rotated the same as the male. I see this in the position of the tip of the fibula as well as the joint looks to be in a little flatter position (on the female).

and did the female need a BM or is that something else there.

always learning,
Rik

Oops, meant to say 'coverage of the joint is GREATER if the knees aren't turned in'! DUH!

Top one is likely excellent if they were in the mood to hand out an excellent that day. Bottom one good. Sockets are deeper on top dog. Where are the elbows?
