I am sorry jenni it's not that I don't want to provide pedigree information. I simply don't know.
:(

This guy breeds shepherds and sells them Canadian kennel club registered. We just went with that.

Plus he said thy were showline with straight back with no hip displasia. We paid about $1300 Canadian for the puppy.

Thank you for the reply joanro. Was it a question or telling me the obvious that I foolishly missed? Lol. Sorry didn't understand.

Oh boy....

Livefree, "straight-back" is a red flag. That's kind of a dead giveaway that it's a backyard breeder. No knowledgeable breeder would ever use that term. Hip dysplasia is partly genetic, partly environmental...both need to be considered to stack the deck in your favor. It has less than nothing to do with their conformation, and again, equating the two screams of inexperience, ignorance, or a sales pitch from a BYB. Demand to see the hip and elbow certifications on both parents. You don't have the pup yet, so is the pup already paid for? I was thinking you'd only lose a deposit if you bailed out. Although I think you should get the deposit back since the pup is not what you asked for.

This puppy is a longcoated puppy. 100% certain. Enjoy your puppy!

Is it because one parent is a long coat that you guys are saying this pup will be a long coat? Is there an indicator of long coat in the photos?
Honest question here.

My male is a regular stock coat and his coat looked just like this pup when he was that age.

See I am completely naive to this. I thought him saying straight back was a plus thing. I just found this forum last night otherwise I would've been better prepped.

Yea I guess if I bailed I'd lose the deposit as I hadn't picked up the puppy yet. He will be 8 week in two weeks and that's when I pick him up.

This dog will be our first and a family member that will live with us for 15 or so years. I don't want to make a mistake picking a wrong one.

Knighthawkranch, do you have any pictures to share please? Your puppy and adult now?

Knighthawkranch, there are a few subtle differences in this dog's coat vs. your dog's if I remember correctly. They are, unfortunately, not easy to articulate :(

Honestly, livefree, I would ask the seller to either guarantee the dog is not coated or refund your deposit. He is only 6 weeks old- he can sell him to someone who wants a coated puppy. Also, ask about those joint certs. Those two things alone are good reason to decline this pup, cute as he may be. You aren't getting him super cheap- a certain standard should apply. JMO.

The hair going from the muzzle over the stop and feathering on the legs give it away. The coat itself at this age is not a factor although it is long, many normal coated dogs can have a coat like this at 6 weeks. Just not with the characteristics on the face and legs. I would expect to see a little more feathering behind the ears but am confident from the hair on the face.

I think you'll be happy with the dog. I didn't want a long coat either, but I got one because he was the only surviving puppy in his litter. He was the best dog ever. I grew to love his coat, too. He was beautiful, and he shed less than my stock coat bitch. I miss him now that he's gone.

I just read some other posts. I agree with Jenni. Get a written guarantee and make sure you see the parents' certification.

LiveFree, I'll send you some photos in PM.
