Baerenfangs Erbe

I'm not sure how many times I've actually said that I'm breeding for confidence and temperament before drives for that very reason, because without temperament you've got nothing...

Just because you breed for Confidence and Temperament first, doesn't mean you don't have drive. So far, I've got plenty of drive to work with.

Mithuna because you never listen to anyone, fake questions. Your mind is already made up.

Drives, temperament, and confidence should be bred for in proportions to support the utility and legacy of this great breed. An emphasis on ANY particular trait,  leads the breed away from utility!.

Does anybody remember the DDR number system for their korung? If yes, can anybody speak on it? I remember they had ''5'' as the optimal in courage and hardness and a ''4 '' was a dog bent on prey with a ''6'' defensive. the rating was worse for prey as you approached ''1'' and worse for defense as you aproached ''10''.

Hundmutter,

Extremely well written. I always enjoy being reminded of the initial intent Max set out for. The intent that is so forgotten in many breeding programs today. Thank you for that post.

I don´t think it´s possible to talk about "temperament" without talking about "drives".
Isn´t temperament based on drives?

Just asking, because simple "translation" doesn´t always help in case of "interpretation", but for me the mindset ( temperament / character ) of a green dog is based on drives first and foremost.
Dogs don´t tend to think about good and bad, right and wrong, their behavior ( as long as not modified ) is based on genetic traits.
