Does it strike anyone else that after the hundreds of thousands of dollars the Chinese have spent for dogs in Germany, that there seems to be a complete absence to their dogs in the German Sieger Show? Have I missed something?

Maybe they were clubbed to death like the other 500,000 (and probably more) dogs in China in the past month. I wouldn't be surprised.

Or eaten, if they do not show well. I hope that Breeders are aware, and run away fast! PLEASE... do not sell to Countries that do this!! Dawn Bonome

There's a lesson to be learned here. I hope money soon takes a backseat to ethics. There are bound to be some oversized dogs for sale since the Sieger. Please don't sell them where they will be beaten to death, turned into garments or used to sire puppies for the Asian fur farms. God bless our GSD's, they deserve so much better.

So, I haven't overlooked anything. That's a relief. In terms of so many of these fine dogs from Germany going to China and forever out of our reach, I think that we are fortunate to have folks like Linda Lundborg who brings in the great dogs that she has like Lord and Urban, for example. There are others too with great breeding studs that we should be mindful of. I know that these dogs do not get sold to China and are available for all to breed to. I wonder, though, how many breeders really take advantage of these dogs to create beautiful German Shepherd dogs of their own?

I am not defending China but I think the obvious answer is that they just don't enter or care. There is a lot of money over there that just wants to own the best and may not do anything with them other than show them off to their friends. There are also a lot of dogs sold to America, Mexico, Canada, etc., that never enter or win in Germany. I personally think the BSZS is "THE" forum for GSD owners to show their stuff but there are a billion people in China that probably don't even know about it. There are many people in most parts of the world (especially America) that have German roots or ties, but not too many in China.

wagonmaster, It doesn't surprise me one bit to hear that those poor dogs that could of probably be better off living in the USA was either clubbed to death or was slaughtered either for meat or for their fur (ya gotta admit that those showlines have a gorgeous coat) checkout http://www.voice4dogs.org/tsinc.htm for those who haven't visit this website... I must warn you that the website is extremely GRAPHICAL.

While I won't sell to countires with no animal protection laws, what is being said is uncessary. There are animal lovers in every country, there are dogs that are treated very well and are part of the family in China just like anywhere else. My guess is that most high dollar dogs sent to China get treated FAR better than the high dollar dogs that go to the USA. Just look at the photos of the dogs from the Chinese kennels, they are stunning and in very good condition. Yes, there are people who mistreat their animals in China just like there are people who mistreat their animals everywhere else in the world. China has their own Sieger Show, in which many of the high dollar dogs compete in and have progeny shown in. You also have to consider Chinese customs and quarantine laws (aka, how easy would it be to take a Chinese dog to the Sieger Show...passport, quarantine excetra...)

Olga, Well said. Its funny that we as a culture have grown so much we still stereotype people and ther culture. I assume that is if i can spend 200k for a dog. i probably wouldn't be interested in eating it.What will be next? Don't sell to Isreal because jews are too cheap to buy good food for the dogs or dont sell to africa because blacks can't train a dog or maybe dont sell to columbian because they will use the dogs to ship drugs to the rest of the world? People grow up. What happen in china or other countries is tragic to say the least but that doesn't mean its a chinese culture. We eat snails, dolphin, rabbit, sharks and lots of other things that i think is disgusting.Does that make us any better than those who eat dog or anything else. Remember the muslims think we are sick for eating a pig. does that make them right or wrong? To answer the original question on here money doesn't always make up for skills and knowledge of breeding.Just because you buy top dogs and breed them doesn't mean you are buying dogs that produce. Usually its the opposite most breeders buy dogs that win and keep the producers themselves. It is also hard to get dogs in and out of china. If you notice as of yet they haven't sent team to World championships as well. So my guess isn't s much the qaulity as it is the rules and regulations for traveling with a dog. Lots of people show and take to shows (national and international)dogs that are completely not worth showing in my opinion. I know they are making some changes in China and it just a little while i expect to see top from china coming to big shows. I would also say that the chinese seiger show is a little more realistic than the german seiger. Alot less politics in my opinion based on some of the results i have seen. Anyways these are my thoughts. ceddy
