The poms are placed over vital organs to help keep them warm whenthe dog enters the freezing waters to retrieve the downed birds. Of course that was the original intent but the style was kept for show. There are only 2 acceptable clips for show if I remember right, this one and the one for puppies but i may be mistaken. I prefer the stylized clips, the more unique the better.
