Hi Shelley:

Thank you for sharing your experiences and knowledge about some of the dogs from the past. It is very interesting that you mentioned this dog because I just inquired about Brix recently because I was interested in breeding to Gambler vom Herzogbucke. The information I got was on the same lines as what you described. A lot of people know only one way to get to Boris vom Trogenbach, i.e., through Fero and Flori. But Brix was an outstanding son of an outstanding dog, Boris. So no wonder he was very good. His mother's line looks very good as well. Take a look at Gambler's pedigree, it is old blood galore. The person who bred him knows what he is doing as a breeder.

Brix was a fantastic dog! I did my first SchH1 with him in a driving rain storm when he was 9 years old. This amazing 31x SchH3 male, retired for at least 4-5 years at the time, guided me through my first trial with the style only the best old dogs can muster with a stupid novice handler. In those days there was only 1 blind for SchH1. The other 5 had blown over, but Brix searched them anyway, trooper that he was, then skidded in the water at #6, knocked the helper through the blind on their butt, came to heel and laid down till the helper gathered up stick, glasses, etc., and completed the routine. He did most of the track on his own after the judge (USA1 William Fields, God rest his soul) told me to "drop the line." retired Brix at the end of his breeding career to the home of an older woman with a history in the sport as a personal companion for her house when her husband had passed away. I'm told he lived to be 13.5 years old.

No finer dog or friend ever looked through a collar.
