I'd like to introduce Merlin.  He is 17weeks old and I'm looking forward to showing him in the UK next year.

What is your pups pedigree? Is it listed here on the database?

.  I'm still learning but from what I see I like him.  Nice bone, nice top line, his ears I think are good ,they look proportioned but can't really tell because of the view.  I like his head but I'm not sure if his muzzle is a bit short.  Someone else can tell me if I'm wrong.
I'm not sure about pasterns, they look ok to me and I think his hocks are ok.   Doesn't look over angulated to me.  I'm open to everything I've left out because I don't know and anything I might have gotten wrong.   I don't know about croup.  And, what is couple?

looks like he has strong alsation influence, very deep chest , length to height ratio could be better.  would like stronger pasterns. Beautiful looking boy non the less.  nice top line and croup.  I just prefer a dog with a little more leg, and not such deep chest.

head: forehead is too round and muzzle could be longer.  probably won't be faulted much though,  I am seeing alot of german and UK dogs with heads like this.  gsd is not a short muzzled breed.

Uber,

What is the difference between our GSD and the Alsation?  Are they both not GSD's?  I don't get it.  I know there have been threads before about it but please  explain here.

I feel the alsation are the deep chested, short legged english type dogs. they typically have rounder skulls, longer backs, just a heavier, lower stationed dog.

not the germanic type(typical wg showline)

I don't refer to the alsation as a seperate breed,  just a different type

I don't know a whole lot about the show lines either, but I really like your boy! I can't critique him because of my lack of knowledge, but he is pleasing to my eyes :-)

Thanks for the comments I,m not for being to critical at this stage as long as the basics are there then the rest should come as long as we manage him correctly. I know what you mean about type, as we exhibit under the UK Kennel Club breed standard we try and adhere to this. I know that those who show under the FCI standard will have there own preferences, what ever as long as we are producing fit healthy animals then each to there own. As regards his head my experience is that it will be the last thing to fully develop and as both parents have good heads I,m not worried about this.
Thanks again  John

You say you exhibit under the UK standard, however that is something which is very much open to interpretation, something which is very obvious with the very English looking dogs, those in the middle of the road, across the to very German show lines.

Could you please post his pedigree so that I can understand how you interpret the standard?  as I am still trying to understand the vagaries that appear across the country.  Many thanks.

a big, Akita/bear type head, though large and impressive looking does not equal a correct gsd head.

One thing that always endured me to this breed was that big ole long nose.  a pitty alot of people have moved towards the working breed style heads (Akitas, malamutes, ect)

Wow, VERY nice looking pup.  Completely solid, love to see him working if you ever get video's.  Curious about his pedigree too.  His topline is what sells me. a

Very handsome looking boy, he must turn some heads!

I like his thickness throughout!

Nice stance at such a young age!

Good luck with him,

Nice sturdy looking pup.

I think I am the third person to ask this, but can you post his pedigree please so we can see what lines he is from!

If you don't want to publish it publicly (for whatever reason) then PM me as I would love to see what he is out of.

Frank
